**About the Organization**
- The Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI), led by Dalhousie University, is one of the world’s most significant ocean science research and training collaborations with partnerships extending globally, across many sectors such as university, government, research institutes, industry, NGO, and philanthropic. OFI manages several large scale ocean research programs. North Atlantic Carbon Observatory (NACO) is a venture conceived and spearheaded by OFI as an international, system-level solution for effective climate mitigation and policy response which aims to create value from international ocean observing and synthesis to improve climate forecasts, catalyze ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), and enable credible carbon markets to collectively achieve net-zero.

**Job Summary**
- Reporting to the Chief Innovation Officer, the Lead Strategist (NACO) will lead the development and execution of NACO’s strategy from its current pre-incubation stage to full project delivery, including development of a blended finance model to obtain external funding at each stage of program development. The Lead Strategist (NACO) will provide an executive-level vision and approach for the successful formulation of NACO’s strategy anchored on delivering impactful and sustainable value to key stakeholder groups across industry, government, and scientists.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop a high-level strategy and execution plan for establishing the North Atlantic Carbon Observatory, including the funding model and financing plan, and value proposition for partners.
- Guide the strategic approach of other NACO-related teams focused on partnerships, fundraising, government relations, etc. and, in coordination with OFI fundraising and government relations staff, design, execute, and close a series of blended finance fundraising calls needed to progress NACO from pre-incubation to full program delivery with engaged stakeholders from domestic and international public, private, and philanthropic organizations, with a goal of raising $15M in year one.
- Identify, design, and enable execution of various international working sessions with distinct stakeholder groups across ocean and climate scientists, distinct industry sectors (such as banks, insurance, mCDR companies) and public sector to address key aspects that NACO needs to incorporate in its approach to deliver value to the stakeholder groups.
- Present NACO at various internal and external international forums, such as industry events, conferences, potential partner organizations and funders.
- Serve as the business lead and spokesperson for NACO from a business and finance perspective to internal and external stakeholder groups at domestic and international events.

**Note**
- The successful applicant may work in-person on campus, primarily remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.
Occasional international travel may be required to meet operational requirements.

**Required Qualifications**
- Master’s degree with at least 7 years of related experience in a senior executive leadership role within the private sector.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in developing and executing business-line or enterprise-level strategy either within consulting firms or a strategy office of large corporate organizations.
- Understanding of the global financial sector.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust to enable partnerships with external organizations, suppliers/contractors, and funding organizations at the international level.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully spearheading transformational initiatives valued over $50M from inception to execution within large corporate organizations and/or at industry-level.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work seamlessly across distinct functional groups, such as industry, public sector, investors, philanthropies, startups, and researchers.
- Superior presentation skills and ability to address and engage audiences ranging from small groups, such as in NACO workshops, to large groups, such as at industry events.
- Established network of international senior leaders in government, financial services, management consulting, and/or philanthropic organizations that may be called upon to facilitate fundraising and partnership activities.
