Through exceptional orientation programming, new undergraduate students will maximize their individual potential in the classroom, on campus and as citizens of broader communities. Student orientation at Western facilitates incoming students’ ability to thrive in university by fostering connections with peers, faculty and staff, expanding their knowledge of campus resources and developing their personal and academic skills.

**Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the office of the AVP Housing and Ancillary Services, the Program Coordinator (Orientation & Transition) supports the planning, enhancement and operations of Western’s Orientation program. Within this project, the Program Coordinator will facilitate new undergraduate student transition initiatives within student community, serving all first year and new to Western students and provide support to the broader University’s initiatives through Orientation Week planning and execution. The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with Orientation Staff to coach the various constituency teams (faculty, off campus, affiliate, charity and residence), and will support the Orientation governing body to organize and deliver soph recruitment, training, recognition, and assessment initiatives.

Working with senior leaders, the Program Coordinator will ensure risk mitigation measures are included in the program design of Orientation Week and will make suggestions around event management policies. The Program Coordinator will assist in the behaviour management and training of orientation leaders to ensure their understanding of the Orientation volunteer contract, Code of Student Conduct, and other relevant University policies and procedures. In addition, the Program Coordinator will conceptualize, coordinate and execute large-scale transitional programs and events for students living in residence, and those who reside off campus, to achieve programming that meets the needs of a diverse student population.

**Education**:

- Undergraduate Degree
- Masters’ degree in Organizational Behaviour, Leadership Studies, Student Affairs, or in a relevant discipline preferred

**Experience**:

- 3 years' of experience:

- In a student facing role within an academic environment (preferably higher education)
- Managing projects
- Familiarity or experience working with student unions/governments
- Supervising student staff and volunteers

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Familiarity with best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new programs and processes
- Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices
- Ability to effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops
- Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Capacity to support and demonstrate openness to persons of diverse backgrounds and beliefs
- Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is accurate and comprehensive
- Results-oriented with the ability to motivate and coach staff to meet high performance standards, while working effectively as a member of the leadership team
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Capacity to consider issues from the perspective of others
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
- Interpersonal skills to liaise with students, staff, faculty and other members of the Western community
- Ability to handle complex, ambiguous situations with diplomacy, calmness and good judgment
- Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes; familiarity with large scale events an asset
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Will be required to work evenings and weekends during peak times in mid August until mid-September
