**Working for the**Fyrefly Institute for Gender and Sexual Diversity**

The Fyrefly Institute for Gender and Sexual Diversity (formerly the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services; iSMSS) is a non-profit organization and research institute housed in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta.

The Fyrefly Institute provides programs and services to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community and its allies. Their work also involves partnerships with various organizations such the Calgary Centre for Sexuality, Boyle Street Community Services, Nekem: To Change Something, and the Pride Centre of Edmonton to provide direct services, including crisis intervention, mental health supports, and 2SLGBTQ+ education.

The Fyrefly Institute’s programs focus on community outreach, creating affirming spaces, and educational advancement specifically for the 2SLGBTQ+ community through our educational programs, research, advocacy and scholarship opportunities

**Position**

The Fyrefly Camp and Conference Coordinator, reporting to the Programs Manager, will organize and manage Fyrefly Institute events supporting gender and sexual diversity, including Camp Fyrefly and the Alberta Gender Sexuality Alliance Conference. The position may also cover additional workshops and events organized by the Fyrefly Institute. This role involves overseeing event logistics, creating schedules, coordinating with volunteers, and serving as the primary contact for attendees, teachers, caregivers, and presenters. The Coordinator will also collaborate with other Fyrefly locations to ensure consistent programming.

This position is part-time, primarily working weekdays and occasionally working evenings and weekends (~21 hours/week). Additional work hours may be required on the day of events.

**Duties**
- Sets appropriate work priorities, action plans, and communication strategies.
- Ensures comprehensive program evaluation, data/outcome tracking, and analyses.
- Supervision of conference and event volunteers.
- Directs the registration process for conference and event participants.
- Organizes, plans, and delivers Fyrefly events and conferences, such as the annual Provincial GSA conference and Camp Fyrefly, hosted in Edmonton Alberta.
- Assists with the design and marketing plans for GSA conferences and events, including coordinating student/teacher participation, disseminating event information, and researching and booking speakers, workshops, and venues.
- Assists with grant proposals, reporting, and fund development activities to support the Fyrefly initiatives.
- Effectively utilizes social media to highlight GSA-related news and events.

**Qualifications**
- A minimum of a high school diploma is required. A diploma in event planning and/or child and youth care is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and working with sexual and gender-diverse youth.
- Experience in program development, workshop design, and presentation delivery to youth, community, and professional audiences.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and clearly with both youth and adults.
- Experience with volunteer recruitment supervision.
- Knowledge of youth mental health, resiliency, and leadership-building programs and strategies.
- Good knowledge of social media tools, as well as best practices in developing website content.
- Self-motivated and ability to initiate and prioritize complex tasks, planning, and projects to meet multiple and often conflicting deadlines.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license is preferred (A clean driver's abstract will be required).
