**About Us**
Balcaen Consolidated Contracting Ltd. and Coldstream Ranch Ltd. are family-owned businesses located in the Coldstream Valley near Vernon, BC. The companies hold multiple range and forest tenures as well as private forest and range lands. In addition, the companies are active in log-harvesting, road building, gravel, and cattle businesses.
**The Opportunity**
We are seeking a full-time planning and operations forester to lead the stewardship of our private land and woodlot tenure holdings. This position provides an exciting opportunity to be part of full phase forest management from planning, timber & road development, to harvesting, and silviculture activities.
We are passionate about exemplifying excellence in stewardship practices and being part of the solution for wildfire mitigation. We believe in working with our neighbors, First Nations, and local/provincial governments to deliver forest management that meets multiple and varied interests.
The position will work directly with the General Manager and be part of the management team with our Log Harvesting Supervisor, Office Manager, Cattle Boss and Ranch Manager.
**What the position is responsible for**:
- In the office:
- Manage and deliver all aspects of tenure administration including Woodlot Licence Plans, Management Plans, road and cutting permit administration, silviculture obligations;
- Support harvesting operations with the development of Emergency Response Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, mapping, binders for log harvesting and road building supervisors, notifications to Worksafe, etc.;
- Ensure that post-harvest obligations are met including the selection and supervision of contractors to complete waste and silviculture surveys, tree planting, etc.
- In the field:
- Harvest and road layout,
- Provide instructions and decision-support to log harvesting and road building supervisors,
- Log quality checks,
- Field review of BC Timber Sales auction blocks,
- Regular field checks on harvest and post-harvest activities;
- Burning debris piles; and
- Grass seeding.
**Attributes**
- a Registered Professional Forester in good standing with the ABCFP;
- organized and decisive with a track record of delivering positive results;
- curious, willing to learn, and progressive;
- passionate about doing things right and striking the balance between the environment and the economy;
- adept and willing to learn about working effectively with First Nations;
- confident in taking the lead to resolve issues and working through challenges associated with public opinion;
- experienced in tenure administration, harvesting, silviculture, monitoring and reporting;
- experienced with programs and tools such as RESULTS, ArcGIS, LiDAR, Avenza, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
- experienced with off-road equipment such as ATVs and Snowmobiles;
- familiar with timber harvesting, road building and log hauling equipment;
- familiar with Safe Certification requirements as required by WorkSafe BC.
**What the position offers**:
- Salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 (depending on level of experience and qualifications);
- A moderate benefit package;
- 3 weeks of paid vacation to start;
- A truck and equipment for the job (ATV, snowmobile);
