Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Planner/Estimator is responsible for the development, maintenance, and monitoring of project schedules as well as cost estimation activities. This role combines planning, scheduling, and estimating to ensure accurate proposal development, efficient project execution, accurate cost projections, and resource management. The Planner/Estimator works closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to develop schedules, estimate costs, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions as needed to keep projects on track and within budget.
Core Responsibilities
Scheduling & Planning
- Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules, identifying key milestones and scope for all activities within specific disciplines or specialties.
- Establish work sequences and determine the duration of activities, coordinating interdisciplinary requirements and interfaces between disciplines.
- Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure alignment with the overall project plan and facilitate smooth coordination of work sequences.
- Perform quantity release, installation curves, and resource loading for schedules, ensuring that the project is resourced and executed efficiently.
- Continuously monitor the progress of activities, identify critical path items, and propose corrective actions for schedule deviations.
- Provide ongoing support to discipline engineers in the development and implementation of work plans and schedule monitoring.
- Prepare and maintain schedule progress and performance reports, including workforce, quantities, and utilization, while identifying potential impacts on the schedule.

Cost Estimation & Control
- Develop cost data for proposals, contracts, and negotiations, ensuring accurate estimates of labor, materials, and other resources required for the project.
- Perform routine quantity estimates, tracking and analyzing actual costs against budgeted amounts, identifying discrepancies and proposing corrective actions.
- Compile estimate data, preparing specific budget categories in accordance with prescribed standards and procedures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of cost standards, tracking performance data to monitor and control costs throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure impacts of changes are accurately reflected in budgets and forecasts, maintaining alignment with the overall financial objectives.
- Assist in the establishment and implementation of specific codes of accounts, as well as the investigation of requirements for estimating and cost control.
- Collect, classify, and analyze cost engineering data to support the development of future estimates and project financials.

Project Monitoring & Reporting
- Perform routine data analysis to assess project performance and identify potential risks or areas for improvement.
- Review costing and coding practices to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements, making corrections as needed.
- Analyze cost reports and reconcile them with accounting records, ensuring all financial data is up-to-date and accurate.
- Develop and provide historical cost data to support future project decisions and cost estimations.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, or a related technical field, or relevant technical trade experience.
- 5-10 years of experience in planning, scheduling, and estimating within construction or engineering environments.
- Technical certificate or trade experience preferred.
- Proficiency in project management and cost estimation software, including ORACLE PRIMAVERA CLOUD, PRIMAVERA P6, and MICROSOFT PROJECTS / EXCEL.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes, project scheduling, and cost control principles.
- Basic mathematical, financial, and statistical proficiency, with the ability to perform cost analysis and reconcile budget discrepancies.
- Understanding of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) discipline interfaces and project management workflows.

The Planner/Estimator role requires a high level of expertise in both project scheduling and cost estimation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. This position requires strong coordination and communication skills to manage multiple disciplines and project teams effectively.
