About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Capital Planner to join our team at CN. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in planning and executing our capital strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • CAPITAL PLANNING:
  1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive 36-month rolling capital plan, incorporating key parameters and trade-off discussions.
  2. Track and prioritize projects based on strategic areas of focus, ensuring timely deployment of capital resources.
  3. Convey crucial details and calculating key metrics associated with the capital plan, including Return on Invested Capital (ROIC).
CAPITAL MANAGEMENT:
  1. Monitor forecasts of Year-End Outcomes (YEOs) and reconcile changes made by Financial Partners.
  2. Anticipate and track additional capital needs or releases proactively, ensuring timely deployment of capital resources.
REPORTING AND AUDITING:
  1. Create presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors, serving as discussion and decision material regarding capital planning and management.
  2. Conduct Post Completion Audits (PCAs) of completed projects to identify whether benefits were delivered within approved budget and timeline.
GOVERNANCE:
  1. Perform SOX key controls related to capital administration, ensuring compliance with guidelines and policies.
  2. Ensure processes and accountabilities related to Capital planning and management are clear and well communicated.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial planning and analysis, with experience in railroad operations, procurement, and Information and Technology (I&T). A Bachelor's Degree in Business, I&T or Engineering, or equivalent experience, is required.

About You

You will be working in a standard office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, you must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. Minimal travel (up to 10%) is required within Canada and the United States.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 7 years of financial planning and analysis experience.
  • Railroad operations, procurement, and Information and Technology (I&T) experience is considered an asset.
Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
