**General Information**

The Chief Medical Information Officer reports to the Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs. This role works in collaboration with the Chief Clinical Information Officer (“CCIO”) to set direction and vision in the development and implementation of the Provincial Health Services Authority’s (PHSA) clinical information systems strategy that aligns with the priorities of PHSA.

The Chief Medical Information Officer works to advance the practice and profile of medical informatics at PHSA by participating on relevant local, regional and provincial advisory committees, exploring innovative opportunities to improve the interface between clinical practice and technology, and enabling the strategic use of analytics and clinical decision support technologies to advance patient safety and quality initiatives. This position works in collaboration with the organization’s Information Management/Information Technology Services group, the Provincial Digital Health Office, and the Medical Director of Virtual Health.

**Specific Accountabilities**

**Medical Leadership**
- Provides medical leadership to establish governance, structures and processes to support collaboration and integration between clinical informatics capabilities across PHSA as well as across Health Authorities.
- Provide leadership and direction to support medical staff and clinician adoption of implemented solutions through an understanding of clinical environment and workflows, which informs the selection, configuration and continual improvement of the clinical information tools that support care across Health Authorities and provincially.
- Leads the selection, orientation, coordination and ongoing development of the program Associate CMIOs.

**Medical Expertise**
- Promotes the use of information technology and devices in the clinical setting to improve safety, quality, patient and family satisfaction, efficiency in delivery of care, integration with biomedical equipment and overall cost reduction.
- Represents the needs and requirements of medical staff across PHSA and serves as an advocate in promoting the use of information technology to assist medical staff and other clinicians in the delivery of high quality patient care while supporting quality improvement and research efforts.
- Determines areas in care where medical informatics should be improved to increase efficiency and effectiveness of care delivery and guide future technology needs.

**Program Development**
- Works collaboratively with IMITS and the Provincial Digital Health Office in the project planning, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of changes to clinical information systems supporting patient care and research activities ensuring quality and safety are incorporated throughout.
- Supports the development and implementation of digital health approaches to care delivery in collaboration with the Provincial Digital Health Office and the Medical Director of Virtual Health.
- Ensures active and effective change management and communications activities to support clinical information systems transformation.

**Qualifications & Key Competencies**

This opportunity calls for an accomplished medical leader conversant with the principles and practices of evidence-based care. You are fully capable of broad systems thinking and conceptualizing critical issues spanning organizational needs. With a demonstrated passion for Clinical Informatics, you have an appreciation for business and systems architecture, data integrity, data quality, core information and data standards and their applicability to clinical systems architecture and design.

- Supports team members on their learning journey, ensuring education strategy for team/department to implement Indigenous Cultural Safety at a practical level.
- Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams/departments to ensure ICS lens applied holistically.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
