**Course Title and Code**: CHM135H1S - Chemistry: Physical Principles

**Course Description**: Structure of matter, gases, liquids and solids; phase equilibria and phase diagrams; colligative properties; chemical equilibria; electrolyte solutions and electrochemistry; reaction kinetics; introduction to thermodynamics. Recommended for students in life and health science programs that involve a small amount of chemistry.

**Estimated Enrolment**: 164 students

**Estimated TA Support**: 135 TA hours

**Class Schedule**: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (9:30 am - 12:00 pm)

**Sessional Date of Appointment**: July 1, 2023, to August 31, 2023 (**0.50** FCE)

**Salary**:
Sessional Lecturer I = **$9,457.90**; Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term = **$9,182.42**; Sessional Lecturer II = **$9,826.96**; Sessional Lecturer III = **$10,060.92, **inclusive of vacation pay or possibly higher commensurate with experience.

**Qualifications**: A PhD in chemistry or a closely related field is required. Experience lecturing and/or coordinating laboratories in general or physical chemistry at the university level will be preferred.

**Brief Description of Duties**: The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to coordinate and deliver in-person lectures in CHM135H1 (Chemistry: Physical Principles) during the 2023 Summer session. The successful applicant will be responsible for effectively delivering the course in-person with all of the attendant organizational issues of lecture preparation and delivery, supervising of tutors, setting, supervising and marking tests and exams, final course marks, course evaluations, and holding office hours. Note that it may be necessary to revert to online delivery of class content if such guidance is provided by the Faculty of Arts & Science.
