**Overview**

As we move through a period of exciting transformation and organizational change, Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) has an immediate opening for a Manager, Practice Advisory Services.

Under the authority of the _Professional Engineers Act_, PEO licenses and governs over 91,500 licence and certificate holders and regulates the practice of professional engineering in Ontario. PEO’s mission is to regulate and advance the practice of engineering to protect the public interest. With a talented, multidisciplinary staff of over 100, PEO’s vision is to be a trusted leader in professional self-regulation.

**Position Summary**

The Manager, Practice Advisory Services, works under the direction of the Director, External Relations, and in collaboration with the Policy and Governance team, to lead and promote PEO’s practice advisory program function.

This position provides interpretation, education and guidance to a variety of PEO stakeholders, including licence and certificate holders, the public and others on standards of professional and ethical practice as set out in the _Professional Engineers Act_ as well as any guidance published by PEO. The role also requires participation in collaborative policy development processes and supports policy and guideline development and decision-making.

Success in this position requires excellent communication, time management, leadership, organizational, and analytical skills, combined with a strong working knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and the ability to effectively advise others

**Responsibilities**
- Track, prioritize, categorize and respond to all practice advisory-related inquiries.
- Provide timely and authoritative practice advice to PEO stakeholders, including practitioners, clients, companies, and members of the public on the interpretation of PEO’s published professional standards and practice guidelines and bulletins.
- Promote the availability and use of professional practice bulletins, standards, guidelines and accompanying tools and materials to stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders including provincial and municipal governments, technical associations, and other provincial professional regulatory bodies.
- Develop and maintain relationships within the different industries of practice, to support good professional practice in all industries.
- Collaborate with provincial and territorial engineering regulators to determine common practices related to ethics, competence and professionalism.
- Develop educational material on ethics and related practice issues, and deliver presentations and webinars to stakeholders.
- Provide input to the P.Eng. Policy Analyst on emerging issues or questions for consideration of changes to PEO’s professional practice bulletins, guidelines and standards, as well as supporting documents and tools to improve compliance.
- Liaise with Legal Counsel, Complaints and Unlicensed Practice staff on the interpretation of PEO’s professional practice bulletins, guidelines and standards.
- Contribute articles on practice issues for publishing in PEO’s official journal, _Engineering Dimensions_
- Assess PEO’s capacity to support PEO’s practice advisory program and provide recommendations on strategic direction.
- Other duties as assigned

**Specialized Skills and Knowledge**

**Knowledge of**:

- Comprehensive understanding of the legal and ethical rules, principles and issues facing practising engineers relating to their professional conduct
- Knowledge of statutes and standards related to professional engineering or affecting engineers as practitioners and employees (e.g.,_Building Code Act_, _Employment Standards Act_, _Occupational Health and Safety Act_, _CSA_, _Electrical Code_, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience in alternative dispute resolution techniques and experience in designing and delivering educational material is an asset.
- Experience working in or with provincial government, municipal government, or another approving authority is an asset.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with problem solving capabilities.
- Effective listener, capable of understanding inquiries and perspectives and recording them accurately without judgement.
- Demonstrate professional judgment and tact in dealing with confidential and/or sensitive matters.
- Proficiency with modern communications methods and formats, especially social media, and webinar/webcasts.
- Familiarity with adult education principles and methodologies for curriculum and content development, as well as group dynamics.
