Job Summary

The Research Assistant may work directly with children or vulnerable adults, or who have or potentially have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults, therefore, a Criminal Records Check is required for this position.

Organizational Status

The Research Assistant will report to Dr. Erin Michalak, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. The Research Assistant interacts with other research staff in the PolarUs research team including CREST.BD team members, volunteers and peer researchers.

Work Performed

In collaboration with the PI, work performed will include:

- Assist with research related to the use of the PolarUs app.
- Assist the PIs with record keeping related to research progress, and with the production of a progress report for CIHR.
- Conduct and facilitate research interviews with PolarUs research study participants.
- Assist in participant recruitment activities (for example, drafting and uploading advertisements to various platforms, monitoring participant recruitment flow and collating for PI review)
- Maintain research related records and databases, entering data according to established protocols
- Assist in preparation of articles, reports, presentations and research related content - including content for social media, blog and e-newsletters, as well as uploading the content to the CREST.BD website
- Support other research team members to maintain and make changes to the website independently
- Provide ready access to all research data and documents for supervisor and research team members
- Maintain clear documentation, organize research related records and databases, and process data according to established protocols
- Attend project meetings, workshops, and other research events as necessary
- Ensure clear establishment of the work that can be completed within specific time frames
- Performs other related duties as required

The person needs to be collaborative, independently motivated, exceptionally organized, detail oriented and reliable. The projects rely on maintaining a strong working relationship with CREST.BD members, healthcare professionals and the local community; therefore professionalism is of the utmost importance.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- University graduation or other post-secondary qualification is preferred.
- Experience working in a research setting would be considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekend and evening hours if required.
