Performs data entry from laboratory requisitions into laboratory computer systems. Assists in slide and/or paper requisition filing for the Clinical laboratory.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Confirm and update patient demographics. As required, add, edit and create new patient and outreach visits in CPR or other computer systems. Perform data entry/transcription from Lab requisitions into CPR or other computer systems. Transcribes patient clinical information.
- Working closely with the laboratory MLT/MLA processing laboratory samples or generating SAFE reports for those specimens not meeting the minimum requirements as instructed.
- Answer telephone and direct inquires to the appropriate person.
- Other duties as assigned, duties will change depending on the laboratory.
- Quality Assurance audits for the department to ensure correct information is listed for input into the system prior to forwarding to MLT/MLA.
- Workload collection.
- Coordinate frozen section delivery with courier and off site collection site.
- Billing Corrections to be sent to accounting as required.
- Accession Consult cases deliver to appropriate pathologist for review.
- Print working draft, sort, attach appropriate patient requisition and deliver to lab or appropriate pathologist.
- The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times. Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor. Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s), and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
- Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with the KHSC Commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate. Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Medical Office Administration Diploma (2 year) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to use personal computer, Dictaphones and Photocopier.
- Keyboarding 50 wpm on test.
- 70% on Medical terminology and Anatomy test.
- Accurate copy typist of data entry.
- Able communicate and cooperate effectively with a large interdisciplinary team.
- Able to multitask and prioritize with mínimal supervision
- Able to set priorities in workload
- Able to accept work from other than immediate supervisor.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
