Reporting to the Director of Care, the
**Placement and New Hire Coordinator** manages and coordinates all aspects of the students’ placement program and recruits and onboarding new hires. This includes ensuring compliance with the Fixing Long Term Care Act and associated policies and procedures. The coordinator will be crucial in attracting and retaining talented individuals passionate about providing excellent resident-centred care. This position requires exceptional organizational and communication skills and a strong commitment to ensuring a positive experience for students and new employees.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Completion of coursework or experience in adult education at a Community College or University level (nursing preferred) or relevant work experience
- Extended work experience in Long Term Care
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Experience in mentoring students and staff
- Previous experience as a preceptor is an asset
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a home-like environment

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES**:
Placements:

- Collaborate with the People and Culture department to develop and maintain partnerships with colleges and universities for successful student placements
- Collecting and processing mandatory documentation required from students
- Plan and execute orientation to the Village, including but not limited to providing tours and introducing students to other staff and residents.
- Promote and recruit team members into a preceptor role
- Coordinate the placement schedule and pair students with preceptor team members in consultation with the Director of Care or designated
- Coordinate the evaluation of the student placement program, including student and preceptor feedback on the experience
- Act as a resource and advisor for students and preceptors
- Check-in with students to ensure the placement is going well and there is no gap in their orientation
- Coordinate and deliver training sessions or arrange for external trainers as needed
- Assist in developing and updating training materials and resources
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of student placements, progress, and evaluations
- Other duties as assigned
- New Hires:

- Participate in the General Orientation training as appropriate
- Plan and execute orientation to the Village, including but not limited to providing tours and introducing new hires to other staff and residents
- Collaborate with the Department Managers to create onboarding plans and schedules for new employees, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles and determining appropriate staff for department-specific orientation
- Act as a point of contact for new hires and department managers, collaboratively addressing any questions, concerns, or issues that arise
- Coordinate department-specific orientation and ensure all documentation is completed and submitted to PaC for filing
- Conduct orientation sessions with department managers for new employees, ensuring they are familiar with Shepherd Village’s policies, procedures and safety protocols
- Check-in with new hires to ensure the placement is going well and there is no gap in their orientation
