**Job Description**:
**This position requires on-site work at Algonquin College's Community Employment Services Office in Eganville, and provides services to Barry's Bay, Eganville, Renfrew and Arnprior**

Reporting to the Manager of Community & Student Affairs, and under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the incumbent will assist youth, ages 15-29, to secure long-term sustainable employment by providing skills assessment, career exploration and planning, short-term training, skills development and work placements and mentoring. There is a key focus on at-risk youth; those with multiple barriers to employment including: youth on social assistance; aboriginal youth; visible minority youth; youth who are recent immigrants; youth with a disability; youth with low educational attainment, including literacy and language deficiencies; youth with poor employment history; and, youth who live in communities with high rates of unemployment.

As part of Algonquin College’s Community Employment Services Team, the incumbent is responsible for administering the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) youth-aged employment programs including Youth Job Connection (YJC) and Youth Job Connection Summer (YJCS), being delivered through Community Employment Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides advice and information to high barrier youth age client 15-29 on a variety of
- topics, including occupational requirements, labour market information, vocational
- interests, employment and labour practices and information regarding furthering
- education and completion. Describes short-term and long-term steps required to
- overcome these barriers and achieve his/her goals;- Completes initial intake interviews, and assessments to determine client’s skills,
- aptitudes and barriers. In some cases will review initial assessments done by
- colleagues and referring schools and builds a personalized plan based on previous
- interventions;- Marketing to, and recruiting employers to participate in training plans with clients
- who require job placement support;- Negotiating placement contracts with employers ensuring that workplace
- environment is safe, training opportunity adheres to all provincial and federal
- labour laws, financial support from agency is reasonable given the investment
- being made by the employer in the client, etc;- Assesses and documents the level of client support needed and the level of client support provided;- Responsible for maintaining up-to-date client files with all MTCU mandated documentation, YJC, YJC-s Program guidelines, including related statistical data; client compliance and agreement forms; exit and follow-up status reports for clients;- Plans, creates and coordinates activities for pre-employment training with EO
- staff, outside services and special interest groups;- Generates inter-agency awareness of various Employment Ontario programs,
- including community relations, multi-media marketing and direct referral with the
- goal of increasing referrals to and from the ES agency and to enhance the over- all level of service afforded by community-based agencies to shared clients;- Develops and administers pre-employment workshops and activities designed to assist clients in preparing for work. The pre-employment component focuses on career decision-making, employability skills development/enhancement, life skills and job search and job maintenance;- Oversees, facilitates the delivery of a variety of pre-employment training modules specific to youth aged clients with barriers including job search, interviewing skills and team work;- Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Career Practitioner (2 years) or Social Services Worker College Diploma with a focus on career/employment counselling or Human Services or Child and Youth Worker;- Minimum of three (3) years of previous relevant experience working as a counsellor of youth and/or adults within the Employment or Human Services field in addition to working with employers as a third party liaison;- The incumbent will possess excellent organizational skills and planning abilities required to oversee a large caseload;- The incumbent will possess a high degree of marketing, recruitment and selection/assessment skills;- The incumbent will have sound knowledge of workplace legislation and health and safety laws;-
