**Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
As a member of the Early Learning team, the K-3 Literacy and Reading Consultant will predominantly provide support to elementary schools in Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding areas.

The K-3 Literacy and Reading Consultant will be responsible for piloting a Reading Intervention Program in Fort Saskatchewan and surrounding areas, supporting students with a reading disability.

The consultant will work with groups of students or one-on-one providing intensive intervention instruction over a specified time.

The consultant will provide information and support to classroom teachers, administrators and parents throughout the intervention timeline.

Students will be instructed based on the Five Pillars of Reading and will be given explicit, systematic teaching that meets their individual needs.

Students will also be provided with strategies to use outside of intervention programming to help support their learning in everyday classroom activities.

Careful data collection, anecdotal notes and record keeping will be collected to determine the program’s success.

The K-3 Literacy and Reading Consultant will be responsible for a range of duties that include, but are not limited to:
Collaborating with school administrators, teachers, and staff to provide support and services.

Modelling and demonstrating research-based instructional practices and providing in-class coaching and feedback to promote student-centered, collaborative, and engaging learning environments.

Serving as a resource for literacy and reading by developing high quality professional development focusing on best practices, and providing learning opportunities for teachers, administrators and parents.

Supporting teachers in the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS).

Supporting teachers in improving assessment practices within their classroom, including the triangulation of data and utilizing professional judgement.

Assisting teachers in implementing the best pedagogical practices to incorporate technology effectively into the classroom.

Supporting the integration of assessment, literacy, and technology in all instructional practices and content areas at the elementary level.

Keeping abreast of current research in the areas of literacy and reading.

Demonstrating a commitment to learning agility, innovation and creativity, and collaborating with other EIPS departments to ensure students’ needs are effectively met.

The primary focus of this position is to pilot the Reading Intervention Program in Fort Saskatchewan and area elementary schools. The secondary focus will be to provide support and training for teachers and administrators in effective literacy and reading instructional practices at the K-3 level. The K-3 Literacy and Reading Consultant will demonstrate a strong understanding of pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and reporting practices.

Travel to all areas of Elk Island Public Schools will be required for this position.

**Qualifications**:
**Education and Experience**:
Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate

Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience

Extensive experience and knowledge of literacy best practices at the elementary level through all content areas

Extensive experience and knowledge in reading intervention and the Five Pillars of Reading

School and/or system-based leadership experience in improving instructional practice

Master's Degree or current enrollment in a Master's program is considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes

Innovative thinker with the ability to creatively solve problems

Strong, independent worker, capable of managing many roles and demands

Proficient in a variety of technological platforms

Ability to work with a diverse team

Exceptional communicator (written and verbal)

Confidence to express personal opinions
