**Description**
We seek a seasoned Strategic Communications and Knowledge Mobilization Specialist to play a critical role in supporting the Determinants of Child Development Lab (DCDL) and its diverse portfolio of projects. The Specialist will be responsible for creating, implementing, measuring, evaluating, and refining communication and knowledge mobilization plans tailored to each project's unique goals and target audiences, including policymakers, parents, youth, clinicians, and community partners.
This role requires strategic oversight, advanced expertise in communications and knowledge mobilization, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while mentoring junior staff. The Specialist will be instrumental in amplifying the collective impact of the lab's research initiatives, fostering meaningful community engagement, and shaping policies through innovative and adaptive knowledge mobilization strategies. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the incumbent will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, oversee complex projects, and contribute to the strategic advancement of practices and procedures within the lab's dynamic research environment.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Lead the development and execution of advanced knowledge mobilization strategies aligned with the research lab and projects' goals.
- Provide expert advice on strategic communications initiatives, ensuring alignment with best practices and emerging trends.
- Act as a mentor to junior staff, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance communication and mobilization processes across research projects and initiatives.
- Represent the organization in high-stakes external engagements and ensure consistent branding and messaging all communication platforms and formats.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communications plans tailored to a range of audiences, ensuring alignment with the objectives of the research labs and projects.
- Translate complex research findings into engaging, actionable, and accessible formats, including but not limited to content such as reports, infographics, webinars, arts-based knowledge mobilization initiatives, and videos.
- Identify and curate stories highlighting the impact of research, crafting compelling narratives for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with researchers to create content that resonates with policymakers, community leaders, and other key audiences.
- Oversee and manage projects and research lab websites and social media platforms, ensuring content is current, engaging, and aligned with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1).
- Develop and execute targeted digital campaigns, leveraging analytics to optimize reach and engagement.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators for all digital platforms, providing data-driven insights to enhance strategies.
- Lead cross-functional projects, ensuring timelines, and quality standards are met.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including academic, community, and industry partners.
- Manage risks and resolve complex challenges to ensure the success of strategic initiatives.
- Represent research initiatives in collaborative efforts, including consortiums, conferences, and workshops.
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Knowledge Mobilization, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in knowledge mobilization, communications, or a related field, preferably within an academic or research environment.
- Proven expertise in managing large-scale, multidisciplinary projects with measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and policy development.
- Advanced proficiency in website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and social media management tools.
- Familiarity with digital analytics, SEO best practices, and data visualization tools.
- Expertise in accessibility standards and inclusive communication practices.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of delivering innovative solutions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Deep cultural competency and ability to tailor strategies to diverse audiences.
- Leadership qualities with a focus on team collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge-sharing.
