**About Us**:
The Office of the Registrar supports students’ academic pursuits as well as Western’s strategic priorities by delivering an array of integrated services in a professional environment, while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of student information throughout the student lifecycle.
**Responsibilities**:
The Payments and Projects Officer works closely with the staff within the Office of the Registrar as well as internal and external clients to ensure that student financial information is recorded and reported accurately while adhering to proper accounting and internal controls to properly safeguard Western's assets. The incumbent must effectively manage student accounts receivable balances, the collection of outstanding tuition amounts, the reconciliation of Student Financials account balances to the General Ledger, and provide additional accounting support as required. In addition, the incumbent must operate as the initial contact with our customer base of students to resolve billing, collection and fee related problems and determine what further action and/or escalation is required. The incumbent is responsible for the compilation of data used to prepare Student Financial reports and information requests from various stakeholders.
- The Payments & Projects Officer coordinates the business processes for electronic payments of over $427 million annually, ensuring the accuracy and validity of each payment and resolving any systems or process problems that may delay or misdirect those payments. The overall customer base consists of over 39,000 students and 12 Faculties.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree, in Business or Accounting; enrolment in final stages of Accounting designations is preferred
**Experience**:
- 1-3 years in accounting, billing, and collections; experience in University environment is preferred
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Familiarity with financial records management
- Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred
- Ability to foster collaboration and respect among team members
- Communication skills with confidence interacting with individuals at all levels of an organization
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; expertise in Excel, Word, and Powerpoint required
- Ability to take difficult but necessary positions while managing potentially emotional discussions
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
- Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
