Events East is hiring on behalf of The Host Organizing Committee Executive.

The Host Organizing Committee Executive of a major event coming to Halifax in 2024 is seeking an Event General Manager. The position is a contract role with an estimated term of approximately one year, commencing in February 2023 and concluding in late March 2024. The position will be part-time to start, transitioning to full-time in approximately August 2023.

Reporting to the Chair of the Host Organizing Committee (HOC), the General Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the delivery of this major event. Providing coordination and leadership, the Event General Manager will work collaboratively with the HOC Executive, the primary event rightsholder, funding partners, venues, industry professionals, sponsors, and suppliers to plan, design, promote, and produce a highly successful and memorable event.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop, implement, and monitor event plan, including critical path timelines, key milestones, and deliverables
- Manage overall Host Committee budget and invoices, including routine reporting to the HOC Executive with accounting administrator
- Liaise and negotiate with venues, hotels, vendors/suppliers as required
- Coordinate and oversee the delivery of all Host Committee event logistics, in addition to supporting activations and events from the primary event rightsholder
- Monitor risks, develop and implement mitigating strategies as required (flagging significant risks with the HOC Executive)
- Instill confidence in HOC Executive and primary event rightsholder through regular, meaningful communication, ensuring communication is streamlined and organized
- Provide consultation, coordination, and support to HOC Executive Committee and HOC Committee structure
- Ensure an effective and efficient Host Organizing Committee, with clear accountabilities and routine reporting
- Attend all Host Organizing Committee meetings and actively participate as a leader of the event

**Requirements**:

- 5+ years of direct event management experience with large, multi-day event schedules and sponsorship requirements
- Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation considered an asset
- Experience developing, managing, and monitoring event budgets
- Demonstrated communication and marketing skills
- Experience in event marketing, sponsorship, and ticket sales considered an asset
- Highly organized with project management experience and strong time-management
- Proven ability to design and implement event management strategy; with a strong bias for action
- Flexibility to work within the events industry environment including evenings and weekends based on event needs
