The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA), under the authority of the Emergency Management Act, leads the coordination and co-operation of all organizations involved in emergencies and disasters. This includes emergency and disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

**Role**:
Reporting to the Manager of Disaster Risk Reduction, the Disaster Risk Reduction Policy Analyst plays a key role in supporting the development, implementation, coordination and continuous improvement of programs and policies aimed at reducing the costs and impacts of disasters across the province.

The analyst provides a variety of services that contribute to the development of sound recommendations for Alberta Emergency Management Agency's (AEMA) strategic policy relating to disaster risk reduction and intergovernmental affairs.

The Analyst participates in multiple projects to analyze policy options; conduct research, cross-jurisdictional scans, and leading practice reviews; and, provide analyses and summaries that are used for developing policy recommendations. The position provides coordination and monitoring of approval processes for various policies to ensure that work is completed as efficiently as possible and meets the ministry and Government of Alberta (GoA) requirements and timelines.

**Responsibilities**:
The main responsibilities of this position include (but not limited to):

- Supporting the development of briefings, materials, and correspondence related to the internal development of the Agency’s strategic policy relating to disaster risk reduction and intergovernmental affairs.
- Research and scanning to support and inform policy development and approvals particularly in the area of intergovernmental relations, emergency management governance.
- Supporting the Manager of Disaster Risk Reduction perform the role of Secretariat for the Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers' Public Safety Committees.
- Supporting the GoA's participation in the provincial/territorial Canadian Council of Emergency Management Organizations and the federal/provincial/ territorial Senior Officials Responsible for Emergency Management.
- Provide support to the Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre as required.

- Strong oral and written communication skills to clarify requirements, explain issues, provide training, facilitate discussion and build consensus.
- Ability to work independently to set priorities in accordance with position deliverables and deadlines.
- Working knowledge of emergency management.

**Qualifications**:
**Education and Experience**:
A university degree in a related field (such as Business Administration, Commerce, Emergency Management, Risk Management, Social Sciences and Humanities) plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

**Equivalency**: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Knowledge and experience in policy research, scanning, development and evaluation approaches and processes.
- Knowledge of intergovernmental affairs, processes and principles.
- Experience in Stakeholder engagement
- Experience in project management
