As a Waste Reduction Coordinator, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and executing policies that drive our city's waste reduction goals.

In this role, you will help shape policy and monitor impact by contributing to the development and evaluation of policies aimed at reducing waste and increasing material reuse. Build collaborative partnerships by engaging with stakeholders and supporting community-led initiatives that align with our waste reduction goals and take a leading role in crafting Council-approved action plans that tackle waste generation and promote sustainable practices.

**What will you do?**
- Proactively monitors, researches, and synthesizes complex issues and policies related to waste reduction, including reuse and circular economy initiatives
- Analyzes policy and project/program options to determine and recommend optimal opportunities for the City to support residents and non-residential organizations in reducing waste
- Assists in the development of multi-year action plans to achieve waste reduction targets
- Assists in the development of, coordinating, and delivery of project-specific work plans that align with strategic direction
- Leads the development, coordinations, and delivery of project-specific targeted outreach involving high-priority stakeholders including facilitating meetings, presentations, disseminating complex information for non-technical audiences, and developing informative and compelling materials
- Plans, implements, manages, and evaluates new programs, such as training or tools for community organizations and businesses impacted by Waste Reduction Roadmap actions (e.g. Single-use Item Reduction Bylaw)
- Collaborates with other Waste Services staff who are delivering waste reduction programs (e.g. the waste education and outreach team)
- Researches potential policy and program enhancements, and develops recommendation reports to operationalize those changes
- Develops project and program documentation, including project work plans, ongoing administrative processes, responsibility matrices, and reporting frameworks
- Other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- University degree in business administration, public administration, environmental science, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of policy development, project and/or program planning and delivery, strategic and operational business planning, working with corporate performance measures and budgets, and/or business case development

**Assets**:

- Leadership and project management experience within a public sector environment

**Skills required for success**:

- Knowledge of the functional capabilities of the various services and facilities of the Waste Management Utility
- Proven ability in research and quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Ability to work with a high degree of independent judgment, and to succeed both independently as well as part of a larger team
- Ability to critically analyze issues, synthesize and collate research and large amounts of data to inform decision making, and recommend viable, creative, and effective solutions
- Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, manage, and lead various programs with competing deadlines
- Strong technical acumen, including experience writing reports
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage with community partners
- Proficient in Google Workspace, and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology
- Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion

**Work Environment**:

- This position may occasionally work outside regular working hours (evenings and weekends)
- **Note**: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
