We are looking for a Quality Assurance Supervisor who will oversee the continual improvement and implementation of our quality assurance, food safety and HACCP programs.
**Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to)**
- Lead, motivate and foster a positive food safety culture within the organization
- Develop, maintain and monitor the food safety program including: HACCP, GMPs, verification and validation activities, preventative controls, conformity of finished products throughout the manufacturing process, onboarding new suppliers etc.
- Participate in internal and external quality and food safety audits of both our suppliers and our own operations
- Independently lead third party food safety/quality audits (SQF)
- Provide timely feedback to senior management on food safety or quality issues and recommend corrective actions and preventative measures
- collaborate with operations, QA team, R&D and senior management on continuous improvement and development of best practices around food safety and quality
- Follow up on issues of non-compliance and product defects. Lead the investigation and corrective action/ preventive action of non-food safety incidents, product holds, customer complaints and all internal quality issues
- oversee annual mock trace and recall exercises to ensure identification, labelling, and traceability system functions as planned
- Analyze process, identify trends and anomalies, and continually evaluate plant programs for improvement
- Ensure all food safety-related documents and records are controlled and that current versions are in use
- Update HACCP plans and meet with the HACCP team whenever changes are made to formulas, equipment, packaging, ingredients, processes etc.
- Oversee and organize regular food safety meetings with QA assistants, plant managers and/or senior management
- Keep informed of food safety laws and regulations within the pet food industry including the CFIA, USDA and AAFCO.
- Oversee development and maintenance of training material. Coordinate training of all personnel (i.e. production, quality, shipping, maintenance, etc.) on Food Safety & Food Quality Programs as per SQF and Regulatory requirements
- Monitor and oversee environmental program including microbiological sample collection and testing schedule
- Work closely with R&D to ensure compliance with food safety program and other regulatory requirements
- Work with sales team to provide food safety documentation for customers
- Responsible for meeting customer requirements as per product quality and specifications.
**Recipe for Success**
- Post-secondary degree in Food Science Technology or equivalent from an accredited college or university. A strong working knowledge of food safety and quality systems and principles (including HACCP, GMPs, food microbiology, food chemistry and analysis) is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in food manufacturing
- Current and valid SQF Practitioner certification or equivalent GFSI training
- Training and/or certification meeting GFSI, FSMA and PCQI requirements an asset
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to recommend and implement strategies towards enhancing the quality standards for both the Quality/R&D departments and the overall facility
- Proficiency MS Office
