West Park Healthcare Centre helps patients get their lives back by providing inpatient, outpatient and outreach services in specialized rehabilitative and complex care after a life-altering illness or injury such as lung disease, amputation, stroke, and traumatic musculoskeletal injuries. Position Overview: The Risk and Accreditation Specialist plays a pivotal role by developing and implementing robust risk management and accreditation programs, collaborating with stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, and ensuring compliance with accreditation prerequisites, all while working closely with the Director of Quality, Risk, and Patient Safety. Accountabilities: Risk Management - Monitors and communicates levels of risk exposure, advising the director and other managers on triggers, limits, and necessary actions. - Collaborates with teams to establish robust risk management protocols. - Performs assessments to evaluate risks and analyzes data to spot trends, patterns, and areas needing enhancement. - Summarizes findings from reports and offers updates regarding risk-related activities and suggestions, aimed at informing important stakeholders. Maintains and updates a record of identified risks. - Independently reviews and assesses risk management matters, ensuring proper evaluation, investigation, resolution, or escalation of concerns. - Lends expertise and support to projects by recognizing and evaluating operational risks, along with proposing strategies for risk mitigation and control. Collaborates with multiple teams to assess and enhance policies, optimum practices, and overall governance. Accreditation - Manages Centre's involvement in Accreditation Canada initiatives, including planning, submission, and adherence, while conducting audits for compliance assessment. - Utilizes project management for consistent accreditation readiness, overseeing timelines and advancements, and acts as the primary contact with Accreditation Canada, providing data and staying informed about advancements, while aiding in strategy development and execution to address gaps. Claims Management - Collaborates with HIROC and organizational departments to collect information for insurance program applications. - Assists in the legal claims process by gathering necessary information and documents for responses to discovery requests. Policy and Procedure: - Develops, revises policies for compliance and improvement. - Guides stakeholders in policy implementation. Education and Engagement: - Offers risk management and accreditation advice. - Coordinates enterprise functions, participates in committees. Strategic Direction and Team Support: - Shapes department strategy with Director and team. - Trains and develops staff for goal achievement Key Qualifications: - Registration with appropriate regulatory college (RN preferred). - Certificate in Risk Management & Lean Six Sigma Green or Black belt certification. - Master's degree in Quality, Risk and Safety, Healthcare Administration, or equivalent. - Undergraduate degree in a health discipline, nursing preferred and Accreditation Canada's Programs expertise. - 3-5 years quality and risk management experience in healthcare and 2-5 years clinical experience. - Strong analytical, negotiation, decision-making, problem-solving skills. Effective organizational, presentation, multitasking abilities - Proficient in teamwork, diverse interactions and high attention to detail, project follow-through. - Discreet handling of confidential information and adaptability to fast-paced environments. - Microsoft Office suite proficiency (Level 2)
