Job Profile
Implementing strategic direction and innovation in the areas of equity, diversity, inclusivity, accessibility and reconciliation. Manages the development, implementation, maintenance and reporting of the City's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan as well as the Annual Accessibility Plan. Responsible for reviewing and interpreting provincial legislation, performing work in accordance to municipal obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), employment equity and ensuring compliance with current regulations focusing on the areas of Customer Service, Corporate Communication, Employment Planning and the Built Environment. Oversees the creation and implementation of strategies to build awareness and create an inclusive, welcoming supporting environment as the staff liaison dealing with human rights issues in the government sector and in the greater public sector.
The Supervisor of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility will strengthen our ability to serve our diverse community by providing leadership in the creation and implementation of reconciliation, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
What you will be doing
Lead the development of a community-focused diversity, equity and inclusion framework, and lead implementation across the corporation.
Participate and contribute to the Reconciliation Action Partnership Working Group and their subcommittees.
Report on corporate progress on matters of employment equity and diversity.
Act as the staff liaison to advisory committees related to community wellbeing. Recommend new municipal programs and initiatives or changes to existing ones that will support community members from equity-seeking groups.
Ensure that the equity, diversity, and inclusion action plan is integrated in corporate decisions, policies and programs with a focus on identifying and eliminating systemic barriers and inequities, such as those based on protected grounds under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
Provide direction, education / training and support to the Corporation in the ongoing work of creating a more inclusive workplace and a more diverse workforce through foundational changes to policies and practices.
Provide direction, education / training and support to the Corporation on reconciliation efforts with our indigenous communities.
Foster strong and mutually beneficial relationships with people, organizations, other levels of government and government agencies working on reconciliation, anti-racism, accessibility and equity matters and seek to drive change.
Ensure corporate Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act compliance and provide informed guidance on accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities.
Lead teams or individuals performing all related functions and activities associated with accessibility planning and/or inclusion service delivery.
Support the Engagement Coordinator in delivery of the engagement framework to support a focus on equitable access to municipal supports and services that align with the City's Strategic Plan
Oversee the City's Newcomer Program and Partnership with the neighborhood association including coordination with the federal grant program
Identify and address issues and barriers and suggest solutions to support improvement on integrating equity and anti-oppressive practices
Prepares, forecasts, and monitors budgets.
Provides consultation services and support to various community groups, advising on inclusive program planning and current provincial regulations.
Reviews, advises, and develops proposals for alternative funding sources, partnerships and grants for specific programs to support diversity and equity and services related to improved accessibility.
Provides process support and input to Human Resources/Wellness, Health and Safety for accommodation, return to work, modified work and policies and procedures.
Education
Undergraduate Level
- four years or equivalent in social development, social work, public policy or related field.
Experience and Knowledge
Three to four years of related experience including the design and delivery of education programs facilitation, and community outreach in the areas of accessibility, diversity and employment equity; and, leading/facilitating work of staff, volunteers, and volunteer committees.
Strong ability to connect and engage with marginalized communities based on credibility gained from lived experiences.
Demonstrates superior knowledge and interpretation of human rights legislation. Strong working knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation.
Experience working with and managing consultative processes with a variety of equity seeking groups.
Experience in dealing with sensitive situations with good judgement and tact.
