**Our Team**:
The Region of Waterloo Transportation Operations team is evolving, and we are looking for a Supervisor, Traffic Signals who is passionate about the job and will grow with the team. **The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Operations, this exciting opportunity would be well suited for an enthusiastic, creative and collaborative self-starter who thrives in an environment of innovation and change. You will supervise and plan daily activities of traffic signals staff. Provides technical guidance, coordination, and services for construction projects. Ensures traffic signals are inspected, maintained, and documented per legislation. Ensures compliance with commercial vehicle operator’s regulations. Project manages traffic signals capital works and ongoing programs.

You will supervise Signal Maintainers, Signal Technicians, and Lead Hands. Administer contracts with contractors; and monitors same to ensure work is completed per contract.

Assist Manager in the development and preparation of operating policies and procedures, long
- range plans for equipment and vehicle needs, annual maintenance programs, budgets, and equipment and material requirements.

Develop equipment and product specifications and prepares quotes and tender documents for installation/repair of underground signal plant and related signals.

Develop, recommend, and implement long term plans, design standards, operating policies and procedures, and methods and equipment safety practices related to traffic control signal installation and maintenance.

Review construction drawings and prepares work plans, ensuring technical and legal accuracy. Coordinates work for light rail transit; and arranges permits. Determines/assigns materials, equipment, employees, and priorities, and prepares daily and weekly work schedules. Issues instructions (e.g., materials/sources, safety, methodology/procedures, quantity, quality) to meet performance standards. Conducts staff meetings and ensures staff training and development.

Respond to public complaints/concerns, delegates work to staff, and follows up.

Develop approaches for improved/innovative traffic control strategies, including evaluating equipment, materials, techniques, and technology.

Assist in the maintenance of the maintenance management system (e.g., physical inventories, review of crew sizes, determining unit costs and productivity values).

Attend meetings with project teams in the Department to provide operational input.

Ensures inspections, maintenance, and documentation are completed per legislation/regulations. Ensures work is performed per applicable legislation including Electrical Safety Association (ESA) Electrical Code.

Project manages capital works projects and programs and red light camera program. Develops, standardizes, and maintains processes, coordinating with other staff/vendors/contractors.

Represents the Region on committees/associations. Keeps knowledge/skills current, and shares information with staff, including legislative changes.

Patrols Regional roads to monitor work performed by staff, identify/assess hazardous situations and maintenance, including situations requiring immediate attention.

Administers an operating budget. Has signing authority and holds a P-card for materials and supplies. Controls inventory of material resources. Ensures shop area is maintained and recommends repairs. Ensures monthly check of shop safety equipment. Prepares budget forecast and monitors expenditures. Ensures the maintenance/security of vehicles and equipment, and ensures staff operate/maintain same safely and in good working condition.

Exchanges information, consults/coordinates with the Ministry, area municipalities, contractors, emergency services (police, fire, paramedics), Attorney General’s Office, other municipalities, and utility companies.

Backs up the Manager and other Section supervisors.

Performs related duties as required.
