**Position Status**: Full Time (35 hours per week), Permanent

**The Organization**:
The Métis Nation is a distinct Indigenous people recognized under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982. The Métis National Council (MNC) and its Governing Members advocate for the Métis Nation. The primary mandate of the MNC is to work with federal and other key stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and concerns of the Métis Nation such as the fiscal relationship with the federal government; economic development; health; childcare and family services; education; environment, Métis veterans, and language promotion and protection. The MNC represents the Métis Nation both domestically and abroad and seeks to reinforce the Métis Nation’s right to self-government in Canada.

**The Opportunity**:
The primary responsibility of the Director of Health is to develop, influence, plan and implement strategies, policies, partnerships and standards related to Health, to positively impact the overall well-being of the Métis citizens. The Director is responsible for ensuring that the interests and needs of Métis citizens and their communities are accurately reflected in new and existing federal policies and legislation through a deep understanding of the needs of Métis people and the priorities of the MNC and its Governing Members.

In addition, the Director of Health will have knowledge of Canada’s government and the health industry to ensure the Métis Nation is well-represented in research, programming and legislation as it relates to Health. The Director of Health is responsible for providing support and is a resource for the Governing Members. The Director of Health is responsible for leading the MNC Health Team to implement health related resolutions of the MNC Board of Governors (BOG), such as the resolution to advance the Métis Vision for Health and it’s areas of priority.

Furthermore, the Director of Health is responsible for building and maintaining a strong network of health sector partnerships across multiple national and international sectors that are aligned with and support the MNC’s strategic priorities in Health.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Lead and provide expert input and advice on short and long-term strategic policy plans that align with the organization’s stated goals, and objectives.
- Develop and implement effective policies, procedures and processes aligned with the overall strategic policy plans.
- Develop robust metrics to track organizational strategic Health objectives; monitor the effectiveness of the metrics to provide relevant and timely data to MNC’s decision-makers.
- Negotiate long-term sustainable federal contracts and contribution agreements aligned with Permanent Bilateral Mechanism and MNC priorities within the health portfolio, including sub-accords on health and wellness.
- Act as the primary advisor for the health portfolio to the MNC senior officials, leadership and Governing Members.
- Analyze and review proposed legislation at the national level that impacts MNC health priorities to determine the potential impact of the legislation on the organization; propose responses and prepare position papers and briefing notes for the President and Board of Governors. Facilitate discussions between MNC President and Executive and other stakeholders as required.
- Establish relationships with regional, domestic and international organizations and agencies and collaborate to develop and influence policies, programs and strategies impacting Métis Health.
- Leverage government and health sector networks to seek opportunities for the MNC to participate in relevant research or obtain funding for new and continued projects and programs.
- Prepare or contribute to technical press releases, communications, position papers and responses to inquiries regarding MNC positions on Health research, policy and implementation.
- Keep abreast of developments impacting Métis Health. Draft regular reports to ensure that the MNC and other key stakeholders are made aware of these developments and their implications in a comprehensive, clear and timely manner.
- Provide regular feedback and reports to the Senior Director of Strategic Policy on the status of key deliverables, identify potential issues facing the organization and proactively, provide informed and sound solutions.
- Lead the Métis Nation Technical Health Committee (MN-THC). In conjunction with the Governing Members health directors and lead technicians, determine forward agenda and identify speakers.
