**Purpose of the role**:
No two days are alike for the HR Generalist, who both leads the Word Processing and Resource Assistant Teams and carries out HR functions such as recruitment. A successful incumbent is both a compassionate communicator and dependable contributor - weaving a sense of BD&P's bold, accomplished, and approachable culture into all outcomes and objectives.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Lead the Word Processing and Resource Assistant teams, ensuring department objectives align with firm needs through staffing, developing and coaching the teams to meet objectives;
- Coordinate sharing arrangements and Team Coordinators for Legal Assistant teams;
- Carry out recruitment of support staff as needed, including:

- Meeting with hiring managers to ensure understanding of job duties and the needs for the role, in order to align recruitment strategies to such;
- Creating and posting job postings to relevant job boards;
- groups;
- Reviewing resumes and conducting phone screens for relevant and applicable qualifications;
- Scheduling and leading interviews with hiring manager ensuring all required competencies, knowledge, skills and attributes are explored using industry standards;
- Completing reference checks and administering external background check process; and
- Organize and administer firm Practicum Programs, including events, recruiting, and relationship management with external partner organizations such as SAIT and CIWA;
- Chair the firm's Joint Health and Safety Committee and sit on various other committees such as DEI;
- Stay abreast of HR and Legal Sector trends through participation in market associations and events;
- Produce reports and pull requisite HR data and stats as needed;
- Administer annual support staff performance evaluation process;
- Coordinate internal staff events (volunteer opportunities, lunch and learns, etc.);
- Strategically plan and administer orientation and integration activities for support staff new hires, ensuring these new BDPers are quickly set up for success and part of the team;
- Answer questions regarding HR policy or refer to the appropriate person;
- Back up Payroll & Benefits Administrator on the administration of firm's payroll functions and benefits as necessary;
- Act as project manager for various HR projects/rollouts;
- Act as backup for HR Assistant and HR Manager as necessary during absences; and
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.

**Education & Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Administration, or similar;
- 5 years' Human Resources and/or Payroll experience;
- 2 years' experience in Legal or other Professional Services industry; and
- Experience working with an HRIS, such as Ceridian Dayforce and viDesktop, preferred.
