Etobicoke, Canada Production Plant Full time

**Primary Focus**

The **Manager, Food Safety and Quality Assurance** is accountable for the execution of the Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS) and for driving continuous improvement within Food Safety and Quality (FS&Q) in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Additionally, the Manager will support the establishment and maintenance of positive relationships with other departments throughout the organization, regulatory authorities, customers and other external contacts.

**Accountabilities / Direct**
- Lead the development, maintenance and implementation of food safety and quality management programs that include but not limited to HACCP, pre-requisite programs, SQF, etc.
- Remains updated with legislations, customer requirements and SQF code by attending training or meetings, subscribing to relevant websites or notices from the regulatory information, or when communicated by customer or regulatory authorities
- Develops and maintains necessary documentation as required by legislation, customers, and SQF code.
- Liaises with regulatory authorities.
- Advises management on regulatory, customer and SQF compliance during management reviews or whenever a significant change that may impact food safety or quality of the products manufactured
- Reviews, investigates and responds to customer inquiries and complaints.
- Performs monitoring, verification and internal audits as defined by programs in place.
- Identifies training needs of the organization.
- Conduct training necessary to implement and maintain food safety and quality assurance programs;
- Acts as the recall and business continuity coordinator.
- Leads the quality department and its personnel (i.e. Responsible for training and development of all members of his/her team).
- Manages the hold and release (non-conforming) program, and testing programs.
- Leads the management review, internal audit, and traceability/ recall/ business continuity activities
- Develops and maintains product specifications and formulations.
- Performs any other relevant duties and responsibilities defined in company policies and procedures, applicable legislations, or the SQF.
- Work in collaboration with the Manager, Human Resources and Health & Safety to keep track of employee records, i.e. attendance, disciplinary actions, vacations, overtime, etc.
- Report all incidents, accidents and near misses by filling out proper reports relating to all employees, contractors, visitors and Company property.
- Participate in creating new company policies and procedures as required by changes in practice.
- Works in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other relevant governmental legislation
- Ensuring each member of his/her team is in compliance with Company’s policies and procedures.

**Required Skills / Experience & Abilities**
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or Microbiology
- Previous work experience in the food industry, preferably in protein or beef manufacturing with a minimum of 5 years Management experience
- Thorough knowledge of scientific principles
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to foster a team-oriented environment within the QA department
- Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven time management skills, detail oriented, works well under pressure
- Strong drive to deliver results to clients on a timely basis
- Able to efficiently make decisions and resolve problems
- Must be highly organized and flexible to changing priorities
- Strong communication and computer skills.
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
