**Job Title**: Regulatory Compliance Coordinator - Meat Industry
**Overview**:
As a Regulatory Affairs Associate specializing in the meat industry for worldwide distribution (Canada, USA, Mexico, and other countries), your primary responsibility will be to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards governing the production, labeling, and distribution of meat products. You will work closely with internal teams, government agencies, and industry organizations to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and ensure that our company's operations meet all legal requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to stay updated on changes in regulations that may impact the meat industry. This role will also be participating in preparations for food safety audits such as BRC and customer audits, as well as HACCP Plan and Validation review.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Regulatory Compliance**: Stay informed about regulatory changes and updates in both the Canadian and US meat industries. Ensure that all company practices and products comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
**Labeling and Packaging Compliance**: Review and approve product labels and packaging to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Work closely with marketing and packaging teams to develop labeling that meets both regulatory and marketing needs.
**Government Liaison**: Communicate with agencies such as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to address regulatory inquiries, submit necessary documentation, and facilitate inspections.
**Documentation Management**: Maintain accurate records of regulatory documentation, including permits, licenses, certificates, and compliance reports. Ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and easily accessible for audits and inspections.
**Quality Assurance Support**: Collaborate with quality assurance teams to develop and implement processes that ensure product safety and quality standards are met. Provide regulatory guidance on matters related to product formulation, processing, and storage. Responsible for maintaining and updating product specifications.
**Risk Assessment and Mitigation**: Identify potential regulatory risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Conduct assessments of new products, ingredients, or processes to ensure compliance and minimize regulatory exposure.
**Training and Education**: Provide training and educational materials to internal teams on regulatory requirements, best practices, and industry standards. Stay updated on industry trends and developments to inform training initiatives.
**Industry Engagement**: Participate in industry associations, committees, and working groups to stay informed about industry developments and contribute to regulatory discussions and initiatives.
**Must be able to work 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday**
**Qualifications**:
- Bachelor's degree in food science, regulatory affairs, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in regulatory affairs within the food industry, with a focus on meat products.
- Expertise in food ingredients, specialty meat products, additives, and manufacturing aids.
- Strong understanding of Canadian and US food regulations, including CFIA and USDA/FSIS requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with food safety management systems (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
