Reporting to the Vice President of Programs & Portfolio Solutions, the Renewable Energy Segment Specialist (RESS) is a high-profile, hub-and-spoke specialist role that delivers segment expertise and consultation across the entire insurance enterprise. Additionally, and importantly, RESS embodies and represents Aviva’s credibility and ambition to clients, prospects and brokers in the renewable energy segment.

Internally, this role will influence positive underwriting and customer outcomes by consulting across all businesses, functions and distributors: underwriting, risk control, claims, central technical underwriting, government relations, client management, distribution, marketing & communications, recruitment, among others. Externally, RESS plays the leading role on segment engagement, thought leadership, pipeline development and distribution performance.

RESS embodies and represents Aviva’s ambition and connects positive customer outcomes with our sustainability initiatives related to net zero and indigenous economic reconciliation.

RESS will be at the centre of a dynamic, cross-functional and collaborative Aviva team. RESS will deliver meaningful involvement in the direction of Aviva sustainability initiatives in Canada and Aviva PLC. Upon appointment, RESS will make an immediate, positive impact to Aviva’s brand and competitiveness.

What you'll do- Execute renewable energy strategy across the organization.- Subject-matter-expertise contributor to Aviva’s strategic plan for the renewable energy segment across all underwiring divisions (GCS Programs, GCS Corporate Lines, Aviva Business, Personal Insurance, Aviva Partnerships).- Steer underwriting approaches to in-appetite project & operational Renewable Energy occupancies (Onshore Wind, Solar and BESS) in accordance with Aviva’s process, procedures, and business philosophy.- Responsible for developing a rolling pipeline of opportunities in all market tiers in the renewable energy segment.- Influence positive underwriting and customer outcomes by consulting across all businesses, functions and distributors.- Act as the primary representative of Aviva at events within industry associations as it relates to insurability, sustainability, resilience and renewable energy segments, including participation in roundtables, committees, events etc.- Manage, maintain and cultivate direct and Aviva-wide relationships with leading industry associations. Assist Aviva colleagues with industry networking. Recommend pertinent association participation and committee/working group participation.- Monitor competitive landscape, optimizing risk selection, and increasing competitive position.- Create and implement appropriate underwriting strategies based on trends and the competitive environment.- Take into account risk and reward when making business decisions, while ensuring that effective and proportionate risk management processes and controls are always in place in compliance with relevant Group Policies; as part of Aviva’s corporate governance programs.- Ensure that the organization operates within the approved risk appetite framework and that the appropriate culture, governance and oversight arrangements are in place to effectively manage the risks to Aviva achieving its objectives.

What you'll bring- Undergraduate degree in business, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or other related field or equivalent experience.- 10+ years of experience in the insurance industry with a demonstrated specialization in renewable energy, project and operational risks.- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage up and down, influence others without authority, collaborate and coordinate with internal and external partners.- A solid understanding of the dynamics of the insurance marketplace and the ability to use this knowledge to enhance relationships with customers and respond to known and anticipated trends.-
