Durham College is seeking and experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality, student success and access to justice. The Access to Justice Hub is a partnership between Durham College, the Regional Municipality of Durham and the Durham Community Legal Clinic. This is unique in Canada and provides Paralegal students with the opportunity to provide supervised limited scope legal services to clients who would otherwise not be able to afford them. This position would be responsible for a combination of administrative tasks associated with the operation of the Hub, liaison with Clinic staff and providing student field placement supervision as required.

**The responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Supervise students in the preparation/filing/issuing and potentially serving court documents including, but not limited to, assigning tasks, maintaining tickler system, proofreading student work and supervising database client management;
- Conduct with students, client hearings, settlement conferences, motions, debtor examinations and trials (limited) in Small Claims Court;
- Provide summary legal advice as duty counsel in provincial offences court (as required) in Parts I and III Provincial Offences proceedings;
- Maintain client relationships including a client database in the CIMS database;
- Assign students into specific areas of practice and manage rotations and coordinate efforts to ensure students receive a valuable field placement opportunity;
- Maintain community partnerships with existing community partners ensuring appropriate referrals are made and documented as necessary. Act on community referrals as required;
- Communicate with the Executive Director and Community Legal Clinic staff as required on areas of common interest; and
- Ensure that students meet the documentation and performance requirements to successfully complete field placement.
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent, L.L.B. or Juris Doctor considered an asset;
- Licensee in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO);
- Expertise in small claims and provincial offenses;
- A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience;
- Understanding of the Ontario college system.
