**ABOUT OCEAN BRIDGE**

Ocean Bridge is a national service-learning program connecting Canadian youths and young professionals (ages 19-30) from coast to coast to coast, empowering them to make a difference towards ocean conservation. Each year, 240 young people join a national network, working both independently and collaboratively to co-create and deliver service projects aimed at addressing ocean and freshwater health in Canada. Youths are supported in creating community, building capacity, and adopting a culture of service for the ocean through asynchronous and synchronous distance education, immersive learning journeys, and 1:1 coaching.

**ROLE OVERVIEW**:
The Atlantic Program Specialist is responsible for the delivery of the Ocean Bridge program to two cohorts of 120 youth. Working directly with 30 youths (aged 19 to 30) the Atlantic, including those from marginalized and racialized communities, this position is responsible for organizing and facilitating bi-weekly coaching calls with 10 - 15 participants per cohort; planning and delivery of two immersive learning journeys per cohort, and co-developing service activities with local community partners. This position ensures youth-led service activities are well planned, delivered on time, within budget and are aligned with Ocean Wise values and conservation priorities.

We are recruiting for a full-time contract position starting on March 13th, 2023, and ending on February 23rd, 2024, with the possibility of extension. While Ocean Wise headquarters are in Vancouver, BC, the work location for this position can be anywhere in the Atlantic region of Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and parts of Eastern Quebec). The hourly rate for this role is $25.71/hr.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**

**PROGRAM DELIVERY**
- Supporting the recruitment and selection of youths and young professionals to participate in the program, ensuring participants are representative of the cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic diversity of Canada;
- Coordinating and facilitating the program experience for 60 youth participants (ages 19 to 30) during their 20-week program including;
- Ensuring youth ambassadors achieve and log 240 personal service hours and 200 collective service hours with local peers;
- Actively sharing coaching resources and tools with colleagues;
- Co-leading delivery of service-oriented remote (8-day) and urban (3-day) learning journeys, following best practices for service-learning, experiential education, and place-based education;
- Co-creating and co-facilitating service-based and educational activities with local Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners;
- Role modeling positive safety culture by adhering to and enforcing the organization’s health & safety policies, risk management plans, and code of conduct;
- Identifying and coordinating collaboration opportunities between the Ocean Bridge and other Ocean Wise initiatives and/or external partner;
- Performing additional duties as required.

**COACHING YOUTHS**:

- Providing 15 youth ambassadors (aged 19-30) per cohort individualized coaching to set and achieve personal and professional skill development goals and ocean service goals;
- Guiding youths as individuals or in teams through the ideation, planning and delivery of ocean and freshwater centric service projects ensuring alignment with the organization’s values, mission, and conservation initiatives;
- Liaising with communications team to identify opportunities to feature youths’ achievements and ensure youths initiatives follow Ocean Wise best of brand principles;
- Acting as a link between program participants and the other Ocean Wise departments including the other conservation initiatives, and business and support services.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**:

- Minimum of 2 years' work experience in youth engagement, experiential education, volunteer management or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Studies, or related field; **OR **equivalent real-world experience;
- Knowledge of experiential education, inquiry-based learning, constructivism, and other pedagogies;
- Knowledge of social justice concepts and ocean conservation issues and solutions;
- Experience leading youths (ages 19 - 30) on overnight trips an asset.

**TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES**:

- Strong coaching and facilitation skills;
- Bilingual (French and English) preferred;
- Proficiency with online learning tools and Microsoft Office products;
- Respectful and youth-cantered participant management skills;
