Full Time/Part Time: One Full-time and at least one Part-time

Department/Program: Indigenous Studies (formerly the Department of Aboriginal Studies)
Description of Position: snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College is seeking to fill one full-time and one or more part-time positions in the Department of Indigenous Studies (formerly the Department of Aboriginal Studies) beginning August 1, 2023.
The full-time position will include instructional responsibilities as well as Chairing the Department. Chair duties are recognized through partial release from instructional work.
The part-time position(s) will include instruction of one or more courses per semester in the department.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of growing Indigenous Studies at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College. We are seeking experienced instructors with a strong record of excellent pedagogy, active relationships within Indigenous communities, and an appetite to nurture and grow Indigenous Studies at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum Master’s Degree in Indigenous Studies or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities using community-based/participatory methodologies.
- Experience teaching Indigenous learners at the post-secondary level.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and a strong commitment to ensuring students are supported throughout their studies.
- Cards, and Inuit beneficiary cards or documents. Community reference letters from a recognized leader or organization may also be accepted.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain currency and strive for excellence in instructional practices and approaches.
- Ensure effective use of available class/seminar time and maintain appropriate office hours to ensure availability for student consultation.
- Assume the responsibilities and roles of Department Chair (scheduling, budgeting, etc.).
- Build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Maintain collegial working relationships within and outside the Department in a manner consistent with the 4Rs of respect, responsibility, relevance, and reciprocity.
- As appropriate, actively seek opportunities to integrate students and learning into organizations and/or the community.
- On an as needed basis, participate actively in program design and review and future planning of the Department.
- Be a positive and active contributor to initiatives in the Indigenous Studies Department, Community Programs Division, Faculty of Social Sciences & Community Programs, and the College.
- Work in close collaboration and partnership with Indigenous Education and Services.

Salary Range: Salary placement is on snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
