The Theatre Department at Capilano University is looking for a regular part-time instructor in voice and musical direction for the Acting for the Stage and Screen and Musical Theatre Programs.
The department is a dynamic, integrated department with three separate programs: Acting for Stage & Screen, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre. Every year, we produce four full-scale productions at the BlueShore Centre for the Performing Arts in which students from each program perform and work as crew. We are closely connected with the Motion Picture Arts Program, where our students collaborate on films and shorts. Most instructors teach in more than one program, and we collaborate regularly to support one another’s work.
This position will include: Musical direction for theatrical productions and classes. The ideal candidate will be proficient with musical direction with excellent piano skills and a strong knowledge of the musical theatre cannon, including expertise in teaching students various singing styles and familiarity with current industry standards in musical theatre. They will have experience in voice production, covering various styles and ensuring vocal health, as well as experience teaching acting, incorporating text into song, and voice work for actors. A basic knowledge of directing and/or staging is an asset.
