**Job Description**:
The Langara College Journalism Department is seeking an instructor for a radio and podcasting course beginning September 2023.

Langara is Western Canada’s oldest journalism program and has graduates working at media outlets throughout B.C., across Canada and around the world in news (print, radio, television, online), communications and public relations. The Journalism Department is staffed by prominent, professional, and dedicated instructors. The department offers a one-year Certificate program for students with postsecondary experience and a two-year Diploma program for students who do not have a degree or similar. The program retains its original high reputation for fostering strong reporting and newswriting skills and embraces excellence in all media platforms.

Courses are normally taught between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., with some flexibility required to integrate evening field trips or reporting assignments.

Please note that instructors are expected to attend all department meetings, contribute to committees, participate actively in program design and review (on an as needed basis), maintain collegial working relationships, engage in the intellectual life of the department, and maintain appropriate office hours to ensure availability for student consultation.

Description

Accessibility and versatility are the secret to radio and podcast popularity. Audio waves are a more intimate way to delve into people’s stories in greater depth, while allowing for the creative use of sound. Students work with industry-standard technology to produce news stories, podcasts and feature-length audio productions while learning to write for the spoken word, select interview clips, perform on air, and line up podcasts and newscasts.

Learning Outcomes

Job Requirements:
Minimum 10 years experience as a radio news reporter. Applicants must have a demonstrated skill base in recording and editing sound elements, announcing, writing for radio, producing radio news, and podcasting for news and lifestyle.

A master’s degree and previous teaching experience are preferred, but extensive industry experience is also accepted.

Start Date: September 1, 2023 (A successful applicant new to the LFA employment group may be appointed as of August 1 2023)

Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
