**Policy Analyst**

**Job Overview**

An integral member of the Policy and Research team, the Policy Analyst is responsible for policy development and implementation. Through research, analysis, and collaboration, the policy analyst will provide valuable insights and recommendations to support NAFC’s advocacy efforts.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Development of NAFC’s policy initiatives, including conceptualization in line with NAFC’s strategic goals, research, development of policy recommendations and dissemination;
- Research and create briefing materials for leadership on NAFC’s key policy areas, including writing speaking notes for NAFC’s appearances in the House of Commons and Senate, and quickly producing briefing notes;
- Research and write policy research papers summarizing NAFC’s policy stances;
- Provide leadership through writing up-dates and briefs for the management team, community partners, Friendship Centres and PTAs;
- Research and write submissions to the United Nations’ various Human Rights bodies;
- Look for opportunities to build partnerships with other service delivery organizations and other advocacy organizations;
- Represent NAFC at various forums, workshops, and within working groups;
- Research and write analyses of relevant Government policies as they impact urban Indigenous communities, with an eye to local, provincial/territorial, and federal jurisdictional issues and politics;
- As needed, support NAFC’s committees and working groups in their work by scheduling meetings, doing research requested by the committee, attending meetings, taking notes; and

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy, or equivalent;
- 3+ years’ experience in a research/policy environment in an Indigenous, not-for-profit, or government setting;
- In-depth knowledge of Indigenous rights and related issues in Canada;
- Experience working in public policy with a focus on urban Indigenous issues, including writing policy materials such as briefing notes, position statements, and recommendations;
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods with decolonizing and Gender-Based Analysis-oriented lenses;
- Experience in the areas of Justice, Indigenous Languages, Urban Reconciliation, International relationship and international Law, and Urban Indigenous Food Security;
- Knowledge of anti-oppressive research and allyship frameworks, including experience with ethical data-gathering and trauma-informed and strengths-based writing and research;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into accessible formats of varying length and scope;
- Ability to effectively multi-task competing priorities on short timelines;
- Ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner; and
- The ability to work in both official languages is an asset. Fluency in an Indigenous language is also an asset.

- Élaborer des initiatives politiques pour l’ANCA, y compris la conceptualisation conformément aux objectifs stratégiques de l’ANCA, la recherche, la formulation de recommandations politiques et la diffusion;
- Effectuer des recherches et créer des documents d’information pour la direction sur les domaines politiques principaux de l’ANCA, y compris la rédaction de notes d’allocution pour les apparitions de l’ANCA à la Chambre des communes et au Sénat, et produire rapidement des notes de synthèse;
- Effectuer des recherches et rédiger des documents de recherche politique résumant les positions politiques de l’ANCA;
- Assurer le leadership en rédigeant des mises à jour et des notes d'information à l'intention de l'équipe de direction, des partenaires communautaires, des centres d'amitié et des associations de parents d'élèves;
- Effectuer des recherches et rédiger des soumissions aux différents organes des Nations Unies chargés des droits de la personnel;
- Rechercher des occasions d’établir des partenariats avec d’autres organismes de prestation de services et d’autres organisations de défense des droits;
