**The Role**:
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is seeking an experienced, highly skilled and highly motivated individual who will be responsible for gathering, researching, monitoring, analyzing and reporting on information relating to Jordan’s Principle and Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC). The incumbent will be responsible for the achievement of defined work plans and objectives aimed at supporting and advancing AFN’s national advocacy positions, interests and strategies related to Jordan’s Principle and ELCC.

Reporting to the Director, Social Development, the Policy Analyst will have the following **key duties and responsibilities**:

- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on First Nations ELCC and Jordan’s Principle policies.
- Evaluate existing policies and regulations to identify gaps, inefficiencies and areas for improvement
- Collaborate with key partners, including First Nations Leadership, government officials and agencies, and community-based organizations, to gather insights and perspectives on priorities related to First Nations ELCC and Jordan’s Principle.
- Develop evidence-based policy recommendations, briefing notes, speaking notes and reports for branch and sector leadership.
- Stay informed about current trends, best practices, latest developments and research findings related to First Nations ELCC and Jordan’s Principle.
- Participate in policy advocacy efforts internally within the AFN at various working groups, and participation in external meetings.

**Qualifications**:

- An undergraduate degree in early childhood development, social sciences, political science or a related field of study with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience related to Jordan’s Principle, early childhood development and/or health, social and education policies and programs for First Nations;
- Knowledge and understanding of Jordan’s Principle and the health, social and education services, programs and supports available to First Nations, including policies, practices and challenges;
- Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal case and process related to Jordan’s Principle, including substantive equality;
- Knowledge and understanding of early childhood programs and services available to First Nations children and the early childhood landscape, including the First Nations Early Learning and Child Care Framework;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the intersectionality of historical trauma, poverty, disability, race, gender, remoteness and socioeconomic factors in a First Nations context;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex ideas and information to any audience;
