Toronto, Canada Beanstalk Creative Full time

Hi I’m Joel, and I’m the founder of Beanstalk Creative.

We are a group of entertainers turned educators who do presentations in schools for students and teachers. Our work is often focused around inspiring students toward fulfilling careers.

Whatever the topic, our bigger goal is to make education better for students - more meaningful, and more fun

**The opportunity**:
**We’re looking to expand our roster of facilitators - **enthusiastic intern presenters who can start training to work with us with the goal of becoming independent facilitators with the organization.

Beanstalk Creative (formerly The Beanstalk Project) has been growing and shifting. During the pandemic, live presentation opportunities nearly vanished. Now they’re returning, with opportunities for live-in-person workshops and maybe possibly occasionally live virtual as well as. We’ve also expanded into creating media for schools who need help promoting their programs.

Are you interested in working with youth and gaining expert facilitation experience? How about hanging out with a bunch of awesome edu-tainers with weird fun hobbies? **Bonus points if you speak French,** because some schools need that. If the sound of helping young people create meaningful lives sounds fun, keep reading

**How to apply**:

- 1. What drives your work? What change are you trying to make in the world?
- 2. What’s your understanding of what Beanstalk Creative is all about?
- 3. Why are you interested in being a presenter?
- 4. What would you love to contribute to the Beanstalk team?

It would also be great to see a sample of you on stage If you have one, send along a link to a video of you speaking or doing your thing Don’t worry about production value - so long as we can see your face and hear your voice, that’s good for us

**What you can expect**:
As part of the Beanstalk philosophy, there are 3 categories of “stuff” that need to be present for someone to be ready to represent Beanstalk. These are the metrics you’d be working towards in your training, and the three essential things that will move you from “intern” to full-paid “facilitator”:
1. **Philosophy of Presentations & Education** (40%): This is the foundation of who you are and ultimately how you come across on stage. It’s about intention and congruence. We believe that we teach who we are, so we have to be awesome as people. Audiences quickly pick up on insincerity, so we need our facilitators to feel comfortable being themselves and sharing the Beanstalk message. Philosophy is built through observation, coaching and conversation as you move through the program.

2. **Stage Craft **(40%): Turning skills into performance-pieces and transforming your life experiences into memorable stories requires a lot of work. It’s fun, but it’s effort. Lots of people have amazing insights and stories to share, but it’s the time taken crafting and workshopping these stories that make them especially compelling and inspiring. This can feel painful because our best efforts in the beginning still feel kind of crappy - but if you have an open-mind and willingness for constructive feedback, we can help you get there

3. **Content & Context** (20%): Our workshops have specific content - core material - that are essential to what we deliver to students and educators. This takes some learning, but it’s less work than learning how to be a great presenter/facilitator in general. It also takes time to wrap your mind around the Specialist High Skills Major* program - which is the key program that funds a lot of what we do. Great facilitators understand it well, and teachers (who do the hiring) respect our expertise about it.
- Online training:

- o Becoming a Referrable Facilitator,
- o Workshop structures,
- o Storytelling structures,
- o The Specialist High Skills Major program*,
- o 7 Philosophies of Highly Effective Facilitators Foundations
- Live Observation:

- o Observation of workshops - live & virtual. (2 to 3 sessions)
- o Attending a teacher conference/PD session
- Practice Facilitation:

- o Participate in career panel / partner roles for 2 or 3 days
- o Prepare & workshop a 5-7 minute performance-piece-style “opening bit”
- o Assistant facilitate for 2 or 3 days
- o Team teach a few days of workshops
- o Solo-present workshops with observation & feedback from a senior facilitator (same 3 workshops)

**What to expect post-internship**:
Our aim is to cultivate awesome facilitators We want you to succeed and start delivering workshops with us, so we need you to feel ready and excited to go into schools.

We imagine this intern program operates with periodic check-ins on those 3 metrics, until 1 of 3 things happens:
1. We say you’re ready to go You join the team as a core facilitator.

2. You decide this isn’t for you.

3. We decide this isn’t for you.

It’s hard for us to commit to a strict timeline, since training is reliant on intern and presentation avai
