Overview:
We are seeking a talented and creative Events & Social Media Assistant to join our team this summer *Please note this is a Canada Summer Jobs position and all applicants must have a valid PR or be a Canadian Citizen and be between the ages of 15-30 years old.*

For over 52 years the Hyack Festival Association has been enriching the community of New Westminster and beyond through festivals and co-operative events in which the community can participate and take pride. The greatest impact that our events have is building the "Spirit of Community” by encouraging participatory engagement that is inclusive, intergenerational, diverse, and multicultural, all the while providing free entertainment.

Your role:
In this role you will be responsible for walking in weekend parades, assisting all event operations and creating social media content to increase brand awareness and drive engagement with our target audience. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on our digital presence and contribute to the growth of our organization.

This position is great for anyone interested in getting their foot in to the exciting world of events

Event Duties:

- Assist the Executive Director and Marketing & Event Coordinator with all tasks related to our two events: Hyack International Parade & Festival in the Park in May and the Farewell to Summer Fireworks Festival in August. Attending weekend parades in the Lower Mainland and walking alongside our float will be part of the fun

Tasks include, but not limited to:

- Organization of event equipment and materials before event day
- Set up and dismantle of equipment on event days (heavy lifting required)
- Managing vendor and supplier load in and load out on event day
- Assisting volunteers with tasks
- Engaging with the public on event days
- Walking with our team in local parades in the Lower Mainland
- Other tasks to be determined

Social Media Duties:

- We want fun and creative content created to use for future promotional material.

Tasks include, but not limited to:

- Create engaging content for various social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram
- Monitor social media channels for customer inquiries, comments, and feedback
- Respond to customer inquiries and comments in a timely manner
- Utilize analytics tools to track and analyze social media performance
- Generate reports on key metrics and provide insights for improvement
- Other tasks to be determined

**Requirements**:

- Event experience an asset but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities
- Social media savvy with a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies
- Able to stand and walk for long periods of time

*Access to a vehicle is recommended but not required
