Autism Nova Scotia delivers programming in Halifax and in nine communities across Nova Scotia through our Regional Autism Centres. Our three program divisions are: Social & Community Inclusion; Employment Support; and Family and Caregiver Support.

**Community Leadership Coach**

**POSITION: **Casual (4-6 hours per week)
**START DATE**: Beginning of February (Evening availability is required) 

**LOCATION**: Bedford - Frequent travel within HRM

**DEPARTMENT: **Employment

**HOURLY SALARY**:$20**/ **Hour

**SUMMARY**: 

Community Leadership(CL) is a program designed to support Autistic youth / youth on the autism spectrum aged 14-18 in developing skills and gaining knowledge within their communities. Through a person directed approach, CL staff support participants with goal setting, community engagement, and skill building.

The program involves group learning and discussion, as well as volunteer experiences. As a Community Leadership Coach, you will be supporting participants at Autism Nova Scotia’s Bedford Office during group discussion sessions and supporting youth in the community at different volunteer experience locations.

Community Leadership Coaches play a key role in supporting participants as they work towards their goals and exercise self-determination within the community.



**Minimum qualifications**:  
- Valid Criminal Records Check (required)
- Valid Child Abuse Registry Check (required)
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification (considered an asset)

**Minimum experience**:  
- Knowledge and experience working with Autistic individuals / individuals on the autism spectrum or other developmental disabilities, and/or experience in supported employment.
- Experience navigating complex support needs considered an asset.
- Experience with alternative forms of communication (PECs, iPad, sign language) considered an asset.

**Duties and Responsibilities** 
- Set up materials prior to sessions.
- Review PowerPoints in advance.
- Attend team meetings.
- Support participants at volunteer experiences and group discussion sessions.
- Collaborate with and consult the CL Supervisor and CL Educator to ensure exceptional support is delivered and issues of support-gaps, accessibility, adjustments, and adaptations are highlighted and addressed.
- Navigate and support participants in identifying and working toward goals and skill development.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Administrative tasks related to planning.
- Other duties as required.

**Assets ** 
- Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in a related field considered an asset.
- Valid NS Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
