**The Portfolio**:
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Manager of Economic Development is
responsible for facilitating, promoting, and ensuring community and economic development to
secure opportunities and facilitate processes for economic and business development and
sustainability, and to increase business growth. The Manager of Economic Development
undertakes activities and fosters partnerships that support the development of Grimsby as
location of choice for investment, enterprise, and growth. This position is uniquely situated to have
access to all manner of confidential and/or politically sensitive materials and absolute discretion
is essential at all times.

With $3 billion in private and public investments coming to the Town over the next three to five
years, the Manager of Economic Development will act as a catalyst for sustainable employment
and business attraction, growth, and retention.

Administration, Economics, Marketing, or a related field. You have seven (7) years of progressive
experience in economic development and three (3) years of management/supervisory
experience. You have an excellent understanding of municipal government processes, as well as
the ability to interpret policies, regulations and legislation and possess excellent negotiation,
influence and critical evaluation skills. You foster a cooperative work environment with multiple
cross-functional stakeholders, and strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
You are knowledgeable of the principles and practices of community planning, land use/growth
management concepts, infrastructure improvement planning and capital facilities budgeting, and
have a demonstrated understanding of Federal/Provincial legislation, policy, and programs
related to business development, investment/trade, enterprise, innovation, and growth.

**Duties and Responsibilities:
**1. Strategy and Planning (40%)
1.1 Leads business planning, strategic planning, research initiatives and performance
management for specific sector(s) of economic development and sustainability.

1.2 Leads the development of economic development strategies, objectives, and long
- range plans for a unified economic development attraction program.

1.3 Develops strategic plans by researching facilitating, coordinating, implement and
evaluating major policy and program initiatives which align with long term economic
development strategies.

1.4 Monitors and examines market conditions and emerging trends which may impact
existing and potential economic development and recommends appropriate action(s).

1.5 Evaluates and reports on the impact of government (all tiers) legislative, policy and
program changes. Revises strategies, programs and initiatives accordingly.
