**The Job**:Director, Governance**
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- **Strategic Governance Leadership**:
- Direct and lead the organization's governance activities to align with strategic goals.
- Innovate and provide forward-thinking perspectives in the development of periodic governance reviews for Board consideration and the implementation of best practices.
- **Board and Committee Support**:
- Act as a strategic governance advisor to all of the organization’s committees and their respective staff liaisons.
- Lead a team that provides support to the Board of Directors, the Representative Assembly, the Governance Committee, and the Nominating Committee.
- **Team Management and Development**:
- Oversee the Corporate Secretary and Senior Administrative Assistant, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational objectives.
- Manage and nurture the team to achieve full potential and contribute effectively to the organization's mission.
- **Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives**:
- Implement inclusive strategies to support the organization’s efforts to recruit diverse and skilled Board and committee members.
- Lead recurring nomination and election processes at various levels in the organization’s governance structure.
- **Compliance and Ethical Standards**:
- Ensure all governance policies and activities comply with the legislative environment and align with best practices.
- Promote high ethical standards and integrity within the organization.
- **Evaluation and Improvement**:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of governance structures and propose and implement improvements.
- Provide insights and recommendations on governance matters during strategic planning activities.
- **Relationship Building**:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, including Board Directors, committee members, senior management, and external partners.
- Influence and gain buy-in for governance initiatives.
- **Change Management and Cultural Initiatives**:
- Act as a change agent, promoting and implementing cultural change initiatives.
- Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
- **Communication and Conflict Resolution**:
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- **Critical Thinking and Continuous Learning**:
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and developments to enhance the organization's governance maturity.
- **Project Management and Collaboration**:
- Exhibit strong organizational and project management skills.
- Work collaboratively with other departments and committees, fostering a teamwork environment.
- **Commitment to Professional Growth**:
- Remain committed to continuous learning and professional growth in the field of governance and related areas.
