Baker Tilly WM is currently looking for a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our Finance team This individual will be responsible for ensuring employee salaries and benefits are accurately processed and distributed, and that all payroll and benefits transactions are compliant with relevant laws and regulations. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be an integral part of the Finance team, supporting the Firm across both offices in British Columbia and Ontario and responding to all employees regarding any payroll or benefits-related inquiries. This role will be based out of Vancouver, BC and work full-time from the Vancouver office.

- Process all payroll activities in timely and accurate manner
- Calculate and deduct taxes, benefits and other withholdings from employee pay
- Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data, including salaries, hourly wages, statutory pay, management bonuses, retro pay, overtime pay, new business referral bonuses, terminations, ROEs, etc
- Update payroll records by entering changes in taxable benefits, group benefit deductions, exemptions, insurance coverage, and savings deductions
- Prepare monthly WSIB and WCB BC summary and forward for processing to payables. Prepare annual reconciliation report. Manage the employer side of workers compensation claims
- Prepare annual EHT filing
- Review and reconcile T4s
- Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages
- Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments
- Administer group benefits including health insurance and disability leave. Manage all benefits changes by adding employees, terminating employees, transferring between classes, updating all employee particulars, adding dependents, and more
- Respond to all staff inquiries regarding payroll and benefits issues
- Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting any required changes and resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
- Maintain employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
- Support the Finance team by accomplishing related results as needed; coordinate with other departments, such as HR and Accounting, to ensure payroll and benefits data is accurate and up to date
- Review and reconcile timesheets and other attendance records (vacation, sick leave, days in lieu, etc.)
- Handle payment of banked overtime
- Stay up-to-date with changes to payroll and benefits laws and regulations in BC and Canada
- Other duties as assigned.
- A diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll and benefits regulations and tax laws; multi-provincial payroll processing knowledge/experience required
- Must be PCP qualified, additional qualifications are an asset
- Previous data entry experience and ability to analyze and report information
- Experience with payroll and benefits software and systems
- Proficient in Office 365 programs (Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication and strong customer service skills
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive information; ability to handle confidential information with discretion
