**Purpose**:
The Community and Legal Aid Services Program (CLASP) is a Student Legal Service Organization based at Osgoode Hall Law School and one of several clinical programs offered at Osgoode. CLASP provides legal advice, representation and public legal education for low income and culturally diverse communities. CLASP works collaboratively with several local organizations on community development and law reform initiatives. As a law school clinic that engages many student volunteers, which includes a 15-credit clinical program for Division Leaders, CLASP serves a dual mandate of service to the community and education of law students.The Review Counsel role supervises casework, public legal education, community development, and law reform activities in the CLASP department and abides by CLASP Governance policies, procedures and directions established within the clinic. The role shall work from a social justice, community lawyering and poverty law framework to pursue CLASP's mandate.

**Education**:
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, such as Law or Juris Doctor degree.
Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, entitled to practice law in Ontario, in good standing.

**Experience**:
5 years related experience.
Experience in the practice of Administrative Law, appearing before related Boards/Tribunals/Ontario Courts, including Landlord and Tenant, Income Support (EI appeals and ODSP appeals), Human Rights, Civil Claims (Small Claims Court), Academic Integrity cases, and Judicial Reviews.

**Knowledge**:
Knowledge and familiarity with substantive areas of relevant law and related courts and tribunals in metropolitan Toronto.
Knowledge of procedures and case files related to administrative law.
Knowledge of the challenges of public interest lawyering.

**Skills**
Clinical teaching skills.
Ability to adapt to new procedures.
Effective communication skills, including effective advocacy skills.
Ability to work within a team environment.
Professional skills and, sound judgement and ethics.
Effective attention to detail.
Effective time management and organizational skills.
Ability to analyze legal problems and develop effective and creative solutions/options.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and other databases/software as required.

**Additional Notes**:
Normal office environment. Travel to courts and tribunals required on occasion.
- **Compensation**:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
