**DESCRIPTION**

Camp Cosmos is a summer day camp for children from families on low-income, particularly those of single-parent, refugee, immigrant, and/or Indigenous background(s), with an anti-oppressive mandate. The camp office is located in downtown Montreal, beside McGill metro. We are an environmental camp committed to providing a summer of fun and discovery for our campers. We celebrate the richness that diversity of experience brings to our camp community.

Each summer, our environmental programming provides the opportunity for our campers to connect with the natural world through activities such as urban gardening, a farm visit, outdoor exploration, and net-fishing. It inspires campers and staff alike to reduce their ecological footprint through recycling and composting.

As a key part of its Accessibility Program, Camp Cosmos welcomes children with disabilities to participate in and contribute to camp life and activities. The program provides each camper with special needs with one on one support.

Shadow / Support Counselor responsibilities:

- Facilitating the participation in camp life and activities of the camper with whom they are paired (in French and English)
- Maximizing this camper’s enjoyment of and engagement in camp
- Communicating and working as a team with counselors to ensure the smooth running of the camp and harmony within the group
- Suggesting modifications to activities, as appropriate, to ensure camp activities are accessible to all campers, and working with counselors to execute these modifications
- Participating in daily staff meetings
- Acting as a role model and mentor to campers and to youth Counselors-in-Training, by leading by example in treating others with respect
- Being punctual, engaging in environmental best practices, and having a positive attitude
- Supporting counselors on an ongoing basis
- Maintaining open communication with the Accessibility/Shadow Program Coordinator, the Camp Coordinators and other staff members

Staff training: June 24th-28th
Camp: July 1st - August 9th

DESCRIPTION

Camp Cosmos est un camp d'été de jour pour enfants issus de familles à faible revenu, en particulier de parents monoparentaux, réfugiés, immigrants et / ou autochtones, dotés d'un mandat anti-oppressif. Le bureau du camp est situé au centre-ville de Montréal, à côté du métro McGill. Nous sommes un camp environnemental engagé à offrir un été de plaisir et de découverte à nos campeurs. Nous célébrons la richesse que la diversité des expériences apporte à notre communauté de camp.

Chaque été, notre programmation environnementale offre à nos campeurs l’occasion de se familiariser avec le monde naturel par le biais d’activités telles que le jardinage urbain, la visite d’une ferme, l’exploration en plein air et la pêche au filet. Il incite les campeurs et le personnel à réduire leur empreinte écologique grâce au recyclage et au compostage.

En tant que partie essentielle de son programme d'accessibilité, le Camp Cosmos invite les enfants ayant des besoins spéciaux à participer et à contribuer à la vie et aux activités du camp. Le programme fournit à chaque campeur ayant des besoins spéciaux un soutien personnalisé. Chaque campeur ayant des besoins spéciaux est associé à un «Shadow».

Responsabilités de l’accompaganteur/trice:

- Faciliter la participation à la vie de camp et aux activités du campeur avec lequel il est jumelé (en français et en anglais)
- Maximiser le plaisir et l’engagement de ce campeur dans le camp
- Communiquer et travailler en équipe avec des conseillers pour assurer le bon fonctionnement du camp et l'harmonie au sein du groupe
- Suggérer des modifications aux activités, le cas échéant, pour que les activités du camp soient accessibles à tous les campeurs, et collaborer avec les conseillers pour exécuter ces modifications.
