Human Resources Director

Colonial Garage & Distributors Limited (DBA: Colonial Auto Parts) together with APM Limited are family owned and operated businesses and are the largest independent aftermarket parts suppliers in Atlantic Canada. The Human Resources Manager (HRM) is a member of the management team and plays a key role shaping the organization's people practices. This is a hands-on role engaged in all facets of human resources, delivering HR services in an efficient and effective manner, fostering a culture of performance and employee engagement, aligned with the organization's long held values of customer service, honesty and fairness.
Human Resources (HR) Management
Develop, implement, and oversee HR policies and procedures that align with, and contribute to, company strategic goals, direction and values
Act as a trusted advisor, collaborator and source of HR expertise
Develop, monitor and report on HR Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Payroll and Benefits Administration
Administer the company's payroll, which involves the weekly and bi-weekly entering of payroll details, to ensure accurate and timely payroll completion and the submission of various remittances
Oversee benefits enrollment, claims resolution, and related remittances
Process year-end tax filings, such as T4s and other required forms
Foster a harmonious labour management climate in unionized and non-unionized locations by working with branch managers and union officials to proactively resolve issues that may arise
Talent Acquisition and Retention
Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent
Coordinate the recruitment process, including job postings, screening and assessment, employment offers and on-boarding
Identify training needs and create programs to enhance employee skills and competencies, and create a pipeline of internal talent
Performance Management
Develop and implement performance management techniques to drive individual performance across the company in support of successful strategy execution
Coach and advise management staff in appropriate instruction, communication, and employee relations techniques to promote productive staff relationships resulting in a high performing workforce
Oversee workers compensation, collaborating with provincial agencies to promote a safe, injury-free workplace and to effectively manage workplace injuries through early return to work programs and proactive recovery management
Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or a related field
A minimum of 5 years of HR experience in a similar role
Previous experience administering payroll
Sound knowledge of HR practices including recruitment, labour relations, organizational effectiveness, performance management and payroll administration
Proven success developing, implementing, and evaluating HR policies and procedures
Demonstrated ability building productive, respectful, and trusting relationships with all stakeholders
A drive to deliver outstanding HR services and to continuously raise the bar
Knowledge of the MS Office suite, with emphasis on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
HR certification (e.g., Bilingualism is an asset
