The Town of Stony Plain is the local government authority responsible for planning and delivering municipal services to an urban community of more than 17,993 people. Located 17 kilometers west of Edmonton, Alberta's capital city, Stony Plain sits on the traditional Indigenous lands of Treaty 6 peoples. The town focuses on providing a high quality of life for its residents through various community-centered services and initiatives.The Town of Stony Plain has a full-time permanent position available for a Community Peace Officer (CPO) Level I. Under the direction of the Peace Officer Supervisor, the CPO will be responsible for enforcing Town Bylaws, including Animal Control and Provincial Statutes for which they are empowered. They will respond to and investigate complaints, conduct vehicle, bike and foot patrols to ensure public compliance with various Town Bylaws and Provincial Statutes. The CPO will liaise with and assist the RCMP and other external agencies with public education and public safety.We are seeking a candidate who:Is committed to fair, consistent, and community-oriented enforcement practicesBoasts excellent public relations and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships within the communityIs familiar with municipal bylaw enforcement and animal control practicesHas a general knowledge of traffic enforcement, commercial vehicle enforcement and applicable provincial statue legislationIs highly competent in exercising the use of discretion, tact and diplomacy in dealing with public complaints and inquiriesDemonstrates the ability to make reasoned, compliance-based decisionsCan work under demanding physical requirements and varying extreme weather conditionsEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or EquivalentMinimum of two (2) years of practical experienceDiploma in law enforcement (asset)Possess and/or qualify for a current CPO Level 1 appointmentCurrent PARE certificateDefensive Tactics trainingCurrent OC certificationRadar and Laser certification (asset)As a condition of employment, the candidate must provide a Driver’s Abstract and must be able to pass a comprehensive security clearance for access to the RCMP Detachment.
