Job Description: Carbon Offset Project Development ManagerPosition Overview: The Carbon Offset Project Development role involves identifying, evaluating, and implementing projects that generate carbon offsets, contributing to efforts to mitigate climate change. This position requires a combination of project management, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement skills to develop and execute carbon offset projects across various sectors.Key Responsibilities:Project Identification and Evaluation:Identify potential carbon offset projects in areas such as renewable energy, forestry, agriculture, waste management, and industrial processes.Conduct feasibility assessments and technical evaluations to determine the viability of carbon offset projects, considering factors such as emission reduction potential, project costs, and regulatory requirements.Project Design and Implementation:Develop project plans and strategies for the implementation of carbon offset projects, including timeline, budget, and resource requirements.Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to execute project activities, such as site assessments, technology selection, and permit acquisition.Carbon Accounting and Verification:Develop methodologies and protocols for quantifying and verifying carbon emissions reductions or removals generated by offset projects.Work with carbon registries, auditors, and third-party verifiers to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines for carbon offset validation and verification.Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:Cultivate relationships with project developers, landowners, community organizations, and other stakeholders to secure project partnerships and support.Collaborate with governmental agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to leverage funding opportunities and policy support for carbon offset projects.Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:Stay informed about relevant regulations, policies, and market trends related to carbon offsetting and climate change mitigation.Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting obligations for carbon offset projects, including emissions reporting, documentation, and certification.Monitoring and Impact Assessment:Establish monitoring and evaluation systems to track the performance and impact of carbon offset projects over time.Analyze project data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of emission reduction strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CDP, CCB) preferred.Experience in project management, preferably in the development and implementation of environmental or sustainability projects.Knowledge of carbon offset methodologies, standards, and certification schemes (e.g., VCS, Gold Standard, CDM).Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and software.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with diverse stakeholders.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Understanding of environmental policy, climate change mitigation strategies, and sustainable development goals.The Carbon Offset Project Development role plays a critical part in advancing climate change mitigation efforts by identifying and implementing projects that generate measurable and verifiable emissions reductions or removals.
