Position Overview:

The Legal and Administrative Officer provides support primarily to the lawyers in Corporate Finance Legal Services and the Chief, of Corporate Finance Legal Services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and proof-read consolidated versions of updated policy materials for accurate and timely web publication.
  • Manage documentation relating to policy projects under the direction of the lawyers.
  • Arrange and coordinate meetings for policy projects and consultations with external market participants.
  • Manage calendar, meeting and actions items for projects the BCSC Corporate Finance Legal branch lead.
  • Prepare and send out correspondence on own initiative or that drafted by lawyers.
  • Compile and organize board policy materials in proper form for board meetings.
  • Develop, maintain and routinely update various precedent systems and other legal reference materials.
  • Maintain regulatory count information and regulatory count binders to enable compliance with regulatory streamlining requirements of the BC Government.
  • Respond to internal and external enquiries.
  • Gather information about adopted rules and other regulatory documents for the fiscal year on an annual basis.
  • Prepare draft quarterly and annual reporting on policy summaries.
  • Train new support staff and arrange training sessions for staff development, as required.
  • Provide back up support to Review Officer and Legal Administrative Assistant, as requested.
  • Provide other administrative support services to Corporate Finance Legal Services and the rest of the Corporate Finance Division, as required.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in business or related discipline, and
years of experience in the securities industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * A diploma as a Legal Assistant or a Paralegal would be considered an asset.
  • Possesses excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have a strong ability to work independently and exercise good judgement as the position requires dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • In addition, the incumbent requires considerable knowledge of:
o BC securities legislation and the rule-making process

o The function and context of policy documents

o The rationale for policy requirements or amendments

o The Passport System

o Windows based software such as Word Excel and Microsoft’s SharePoint functionality as well as e-services for applications database and SCAN system for applications

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $63,721 (minimum) - $79,654 (midpoint) - $95,584 (maximum).

The starting salary for this position will be determined considering the successful candidate’s relevant experience and education, salaries of other employees in the same salary range, market conditions and other relevant factors. Starting salaries are normally below the salary band midpoint.
