Project Accountant Role:

Reporting to our Accounting Manager, you will be a key member of the accounting and finance team. Your primary responsibilities will include full cycle accounting for assigned projects.

  • Full cycle accounting duties include but not limited to:
    o Accounts payable – invoice processing, payment, and responding to vendor enquiries
    o Setup vendor profiles on Sage
    o Accounts receivable – time and materials billing, progress billing, and invoicing
    o Follow up with project managers on receivable balances
    o Bank and credit card reconciliations
    o Accrual and ad hoc journal entries
    o WCB compliance reporting
    o Ensure timely completion of month end tasks
    • Project accounting duties include but not limited to:
    o Manage the accounting needs for a project from beginning to end
    o Setup project in Sage including estimates, budgets, and billing setup
    o Setup client profiles and update as needed
    o Project profit and performance reporting
    o Variance analysis and reporting
    o Assist in preparation of annual reports
  • Teamwork: cross-collaborate effectively within the organization and its stakeholders. Be a trusted expert within the department & cross-trained with other duties on the finance and accounting team.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to manage and oversee growth opportunities as presented and other ad hoc duties as they arise.
What You Bring To The Team:

• 3 years experience in a related role, a degree/diploma/certificate in accounting and finance, or a relevant combination of education and experience.
• Detail & solutions oriented – While this isn’t a high-volume accounts payable role, there are deadlines that need to be met to ensure our sub-trades are paid accurately and on time.
• Core values – Demonstrate living the following values 1) dedication to safety 2) team comes first 3) thinks like a client 4) intense desire for continued learning 5) loves the challenge of solving problems.
• Treasury Management – Knowledge of online banking systems and the intricacies of processing wire transfers, ACH, EFT, bill payments, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in Microsoft excel.
• Experience working in a construction based company with a solid knowledge of the construction process and the environment is an asset.
• Previous experience with Sage accounting products, or similar is an asset.
• Prior accounting experience in a highly engaged entrepreneurial environment is an asset.
