Day Camp Coordinator
Locations: Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge (Calgary, AB, CA)
Salary: $19.50-$20.50/hour
Start Date: May 20th, 2024
End Date: August 29th, 2024

Due to Camping Association Standards, counsellors must be 16 years of age or older

What qualifications are we looking for?

· Completed or pursuing a degree/diploma in Recreation Therapy, Recreation Management, Physical Education/Kinesiology, Education, Communication Rehabilitation, Special Education or related education is an asset

· Previous YMCA day camp or overnight camp experience is an asset

· Must have previous experience working with persons with disabilities and a solid understanding of the integration process

· Supervisory experience is an asset

· Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification

· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search

· Three professional references

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting to the Day Camp Supervisor, the Day Camp Coordinator will:

· Hire, train and provide coaching and performance management for day camp counsellors

· Supervise and evaluate all Day Camp Counsellors on an ongoing basis; support counsellors with pre-summer goal setting, and mid / end-of-summer performance evaluations

· Complete on-site field trip hazard assessments, field trip scheduling and bussing bookings

· Manage and purchase equipment and supply inventories

· Assist with program registration for Day Camps and provide support for medical forms and parent communication.

· Collaborate with representatives that the branch to organize space booking and schedules for Day Camps.

· Ensure that YMCA Camp Counsellors are providing safe and engaging programs while following YMCA policies and procedures; assist with daily camp duties, camper supervision, be in ratio, and perform site maintenance

· Demonstrate role model behavior when dealing with staff, campers, and members

· Facilitate communication with counsellors, parents, campers, branch staff, and the Day Camp Manager; respond to parent/guardian concerns in a professional manner

· Complete all required administrative tasks including organizing rosters and medical forms

· Plan and implement weekly staff meetings; complete biweekly counselor schedules Day Camp Counsellors

· Attend all meetings and in-services and play an active role in regional training for Day Camp Counsellors
