Centre for Sexuality is a community-based organization that provides access to non-judgmental sexual and reproductive health services and support. We are hiring one amazing camp fYrefly 2024 event planner and logistics coordinator to join our motivated team with a mission to normalize sexual health in Alberta.
 
Camp fYrefly is a fun, educational, social, and personal overnight leadership retreat for 2SLGBTQ+ youth ages 14 – 20. Campers explore their identity, build resilience, enhance self-esteem, and develop leadership skills that positively impact their lives, homes, schools, and communities. Camp fYrefly Southern Alberta will take place at Camp Chief Hector from August 25 th – August29th, 2024. Camp staff will be expected to be on site for camp from August 24 th -August 29 th , 2024.

As our successful candidate you will:

  • Support event planning and logistics for camp fYrefly, including:
    • Liaising with site to ensure all details are organized for camper arrivals.
    • Liaising with campers and guardians to ensure all paperwork is completed and arrangements for attendance are complete.
    • Organizing volunteer training logistics and facilitating volunteer training.
    • Ensuring all supplies are purchased and onsite to support camper activities.
    • Coordinating with workshop presenters to create workshop schedule, ensuring all presenters have technology and supplies required for their sessions.
    • Working with the planning team, to create an overall program schedule for the camp.
    • Managing camp budget and expenses.
    • Providing event support for the duration of camp, ensuring campers, volunteers and guests have what they need for a positive experience.
    • Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems during the event.
    • Assisting with evaluations at camp and completing post-camp report.
    • Participating in relevant team meetings.
    • Supporting and participating in youth advisory meetings.

 
Qualifications and attributes include:

  • Experience with event planning.
  • Commitment to organizational values: Social Justice/Feminism, Prevention, Collaboration and Curiosity.
  • Comfort and experience working with youth.
  • Comfort and experience working with 2SLGBTQINA+ community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrating empathy and compassion.
  • Demonstrating curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Working effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, in a fast-paced, open-space work environment.

This is a short-term contract position. The candidate is expected to work 35 hours per week from June 3 rd , 2024, to September 13 th , 2024.
 
The successful candidate must be able to provide a police information record check with vulnerable sector search and is available to work some evenings and weekends as required.
